Hey wrenches: STI shifter tech help

My right STI shifter (Ultegra 6700) has stopped shifting, so I need some ideas on how to troubleshoot. The rear der shifts if I pull the cable, so it’s not the der. The shifter does not appear to be pulling or releasing cable when I run through the detentes. Is there anything else I can check before I conclude this thing is toast? Thanks.

Is your cable pinched/caught higher up? I am assuming your are pulling the cable somewhere along the down tube.

Yes, I am pulling it along the top tube (it’s a CX bike). I will check that.

It might not be toast regardless of what is wrong with it, as this guy repairs them cheaply - he seems to mainly cater for the older stuff but it might be worth sending him a message anyway if the shifter refuses to cooperate.

He is highly recommended by the Classic and Vintage guys in Bike Forums who have used him, I have no personal connection or experience. Search

my guess… broken cable end.

leaves the cable in the housing so you can do what you described pulling the cable. and makes the shifter not function.

i’m hoping you started at pulling the cable out first though…
