Was on my long ride yesterday, near Sutton (about 60 KM north of Toronto). On Kennedy, north of Ravenshoe, right around Ravencrest. As I pedalled to the top of the hill, a fairly gruesome sight.
Two cop cars stopped, lights flashing. Road bike on its side, facing south, on the west side of the road. Helmet off to the side. And a fairly large stain of what looked to be blood, in the middle of the southbound lane.
Cops were taking pictures, and no car was around, so I assume the guy wiped out, or it was a hit-and-run situation (though I could be wrong). I didn’t see if the helmet was cracked, or get a close look at the bike, but the cops didn’t seem to know how the rider was. It’s a fairly quiet country road.
Looked pretty ugly. Hope the rider is okay…anyone know anything?
I did not see this, but I’m awfully concerned, as that is part of one of my favourite routes. Please let us know if/when you hear anything.
One time we were riding on Warden, south of Ravenshoe, when a convoy of 3 cars violently passed us then stopped up the road. They got out of their car and played chicken with us on the road, looking for a confrontation. It was a Sunday morning, and they had obviously been drinking. Scary, but sad, since there were kids in each of the cars. They were yelling something about how we rode was scaring their kids (!). We all managed to escape without much incident, but several of us had to swerve quite quickly in order to get through the 4-5 people standing on the road looking to knock us off our bikes. Needless to say, we kept one eye over our shoulders as we continued on the ride. Lucky for us, cooler heads prevailed (or they found more booze, which was more interesting…).
