By the way - The free script BPM-inspector from Apple Downloads works great with iTunes.

Wow, thanks for the post. You’ve been a great help. I’ll get BPM-inspector & will forward any songs I find.

Neat list. How did you determine the BPM? David K

Great list…one word of advice you need to double the beat count to match the cadence you want to ride…ie; 90 cad should be ridden with music in the 180 beat range…why you ask, easier to pedal one leg per beat than 2 legs per beat…if you don’t you’ll find yourself pedaling slower to match the music…

Try some dance type music…like LovInc etc…fast beats= fast cadence…try it you’ll like it…if you can keep up that is…lol…later, Dean

When I tap my foot on the floor to the beat of music -I use one foot - not both.Same with bike riding . So around 90- 100 works. I don’t like most 180 BPM techno dance music anyway.

David K, I use the script BPM Inspector, easily Googled and downloaded for free.
It is not an exact science, since you have to click the mouse to the beat of your music. - Some people would do double or half the amount of click, depending on how they feel the rythm. Also - some drummers vary their beat a little during a song, and lots of songs have different breaks with different rythm. I try to pick the beat the majority of the song is in.

The point of the tread is not to argue what BPM a song have, but to be a resource for folks to find rockin’ songs to bike and run to.

Here is another top 10 for my “urban” rides:

How We roll - Big Pun f./ Ashanti - 90 BPM
C U when U Get There - Coolio - 90 BPM
#1 - Nelly - 90 BPM
Feel Me Flow - Naughty By Nature - 91 BPM
Triumph - Wu Tang Clan - 91 BPM
Pushin’ Weight - Ice Cube - 92 BPM
Ride - Redman - 94 BPM
Steppin’ It Up - A Tribe Called Quest - 95 BPM
Survival of the Fittest - Mobb Deep - 95 BPM
He Got Game - Public Enemy - 97 BPM

I like to have my mix go up slowly in cadence, and have some kind of inspiring lyrics (even if they might be meaning something different)

Trying to get a list going of music in Twiki so we don’t need to keep bringing up this thread. IT will always be there and we can just keep adding to it. Some good songs, why not add it to the list.

Bob

you’re on a mac aren’t you?

i can’t find a windows version…:frowning:

Oh, is there anyone still not on a Mac out there :).
Good idea moving the songlists to Slowtiki. Thanks. I already found them threre by searching for workout music. I will add more songs there from now, and encourage everybody else to do likewise.

yeah…the rest of the world that needs useful productivity software…not graphics and multimedia editing.

any idea how much of a pain in the ass a mac is as a student? my housemate loves his…but loathes it every time it needs to do something semiproductive

I use Mixmeister – you can get a 30 day free demo download and it gives you the BPM for all of your songs. Also a good program to put together songs for workout play lists, spinning classes etc – you can cut/splice/blend together songs.

Not sure about the BPM on these songs, but I’m SURE that they’re all over 90

Metallica - Stone Cold Crazy (cover)

Green Day - Nice Guys Finish Last

Hedley - On my own

House of Pain - Jump Around (if you take the half beat)

Jane’s Addiction - Bean Caught Stealing

The Killers - Mr Brightside

Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains the Same, Rock and Roll

Metallica - 4 Hoursemen

Metallica - Battery, Master of Puppets, Breadfan (cover)

Ramones - Blitzkrieg Bop

The Trews - Not Ready to Go (AWESOME workout song!)
.

That’s really cool, thanks for the info. I have been asking everyone I know who downloads if there is a way to find BPM. I like it for running/cycling and also when I teach. I’ve been using the CD’s specifically made for aerobics classes, but some of the music is pretty goofy. I’d really like to be able to make my own mixes.

A couple of really good artists are Crystal Method and The Chemical Brothers, if you like electronica type music. Good strong beat, but a bit repetitive.

Last night I discovered that Tom Petty’s "Running Down A Dream is 90 bpm.

On the Mac front. I had one and never had problems doing anything in college, except for getting some games. I now have a PC because of the cost and would go Mac again the next time I buy a computer without a doubt!

The program is pretty sweet. I imported my music and it is going through every song and the bpm it’s giving me is dead on to my personal timing. I am amazed at how slow 90bpm is in music. All of My Love by Zeppelin is 91!
