Help With Specialized Transition

One the triangle aero protrusions sticking off the head tube/down tube towards the fork on my transition is starting fall apart. The carbon is actually pealing apart in a small area and while its a non-structural part of the frame I want to know the best way to fix/limit the damage is. Has anyone else had this problem? How did they fix it?

I have a chip of paint missing on the corner there that has not gotten worse on mine. Touching it up with some automobile touch up paint will cover it up and should keep it from getting worse.

clear coat/paint it/tape it. It’s not that big of a deal. I know quite a few transition owners who have that corner chipping, broken or somehow not there anymore.
Besides if you break enough of it off, then your bike is UCI compliant.

Yeah, it’s pretty much a fact of life with Transitions.

Between the bars turning when a bike falls, stuffing it in the trunk, bars turning on a car rack…whatever the case, they get nicked.

It’s happened on all 3 of my Transitions that I have owned. The best advice I can offer is to glue the rubber bumpers on good so they stay in place, and also that Testors brand model paint at your local craft store is enamel & matches many Specialized colors exactly.

I just touched up my '10 Pro yesterday in fact.

Does this happen on all model years? I was interested in getting one, but I get picky about this stuff.

Wow, I didn’t realize that was a problem. I have an '09 myself and the only nick I have is at the very bottom of the fork. +1 on the Testors paint.

While I hear looking good at races is important, last I checked being faster (the fastest) was the most important thing in a race.

You can get a bike that might be less prone to this or you can get a bike that is as fast or faster then just about anything else out there.

This is not a defect in the design or frame. The material is hardly flimsy in that section. No doubt, anyone who has had any problems were either careless in the racking, handling or storage of their bike. I’ve had my Transition for two years with nary a problem. This is the first I have heard of this “problem.”

Some clear coat nail polish (as recommended by my LBS) seems to have done the trick for my transition.

Both sides came off my '09 transition…re glued a couple of times & like others slight chip on each of the corners…FWIW-found automotive rubber gasket sealant holds well & can be used as a protective coating of the area if the pads go missing.
