Help with Garmin 310XT watch

I busted out my Garmin 310XT watch the other day and ugh :frowning:
Does anyone still use theirs?
Is it functional?
Mine wasn’t turning on, I eventually got it on, then the screen was hard to view, it had solid lines across it. It didn’t seem to want to sync with my computer via the usb stick. I’ve since turned it off and now it’s not turning on. I’m anxious to call Garmin on Monday, but I bet they’d be no help, tell me it’s vintage tech and give me a “coupon” for a new one. I’m not in the market for a new $1,000 smart watch.

I don’t hangout with my old tri friends that I think had the same watch, so slowtwitch… can I still use this watch? Or is it a paperweight? Please and thank you!

You’re making me want to dig up my old 305 and see if it still turns on. That said, if you’re looking for multi-sport functionality at a reasonable price, I’d look around at a used 735XT. There’s tons of new features, but probably the biggest advantage of jumping to a relatively new watch is the GPS pre-load. Drops the initial lock time from a few minutes to 10-15 seconds. It’s also way smaller and the battery is probably in much better shape.

DC Rainmaker did a 305, how does it work now article (using the 945 as the comparison) - https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/01/15-years-later-forerunner-305-released.html - the 305 is older and the 945 has more bells and whistles than the 735XT but should give you a good sense of what you get from upgrading.

Thank you! Yes! I saw the dcrainmaker content in my research. I’m in the dipping my toes in the exercising lifestyle again now, and thinking I could still be happy with my basic polar heart rate watch and add in a tight comfortable hip belt bag for my smart phone, inside of a ziplock bag for real-time pace/speed/distance info, along with my discontinued wired Bose Sport earphones for music. I think I solved the static issue yesterday by wrapping electrical tape around the holes that were made by the shirt clip they came with. The outer rubber tube that the wires are in had been rubbed through by where the clip was placed. Although getting HR info via a sensor around the wrist and not wearing a chest strap must be nice. And getting music from it too. Ugh running with a phone is the worst! Plus wired earphones! Ugh!

contact garmin and see if they offer a refurb? will be $100. Im still using a 920 after so many years, 2 refurb replacements so far. That why I love garmin… their support is best

Ok, I wonder what their policy is for a discontinued product. The Bose product I mentioned is discontinued and they couldn’t help me, the new version is different, it’s wireless!

Check eBay. Refurbs are ~$85, and used ones can be had for <$40.

If you live in the United States I can mail you one that works great I may even have two I just like five bucks for the postage
.

My 310 served me well for years, but when it finally gave up I was ready to drop a large on a 945. After comparing features and shopping around I ended up buying a 245, at 1/3 the price of a 945. Does everything I need and more, light, comfortable, good battery life.

I’ve got a 910 I rarely used I keep meaning to post pics of on classifieds. I mainly used it for swimming and did less than 5 races with it. Interested?

PM sent!

I got my a 310XT in 2010 and yes, that is still what I use. I use my almost every day of the week. If you haven’t used your for a while you probably miss a dozen software updates. You may have to start by reloading the software to get everything up to date and then resyncing the Hear Rate Monitor, Speed Cadence Sensor and any other accessories. I have had to get replacements for cracked screen twice and am on about the 4th heart rate strap but it works like a champion. I am going to hold on it it for as long as I can. No complaints at all with mine.

I should be good to go, so nope, I’m good.
