I am so ready to throw all this sh@# away. I have been struggling for quite some time now to try to get my computer to talk to the watch. I had a IRDA that I took back and got the Polar adaptor and still have problems. Is there anyone out there that has gone through this that can help. I have uninstalled/ reinstalled with all the upgrades numerous times. I think they need to work on their technology more. This product at best seems to be a prototype.
I first tried to use my 720i with an IRDA unit of my own and had no luck, despite trying various things. So I gave in and bought the Polar unit, and have had no problems with it. Also, my watch talks to my laptop just fine through its IR port. Sorry it isn’t working for you…
Are you going thru a USB hub or directly into a USB port?
Have you already gone to www.polar.fi site and pulled doen drivers. You also might want to follow their procedure for repairing connection (i…e removing hardware and and polar related DLLs that might be lingering after removal)
Polar had a run of usb infrared units that didn’t work with certain brands of USB hardware (my Compaq laptop, for example.) These units are still floating around the stores, although they are no longer being producd. They sent me a replacement unit and all was well - after I finally broke down and called them, having tried everything else numerous times…
well I’ve printed out ALL the instructions for just about every scenario I may encounter and am going to try to earse absolutely everything and restart. I’m not trying to be an a##, but when you pay $300 for a watch and then out of frustration print out all these new instruction only to find they state to “not use” the instructions that come with the USB adaptor, it sucks. Again, it seems like something that wasn’t ready to go to market or they were to cheap to make the corrections and repackage.
Mine has worked with no problems, heart rate, multiple bikes/speed sensors, and the usb IR adapter.
I did download the software update, and an updated usb driver with readme file (read it for help on the driver update) from polar before i used it. i have not had any problems since.
Man I have just done everything exactly to downloaded instructions. Downloaded the usb_remove_v1004.exe and ran that, dumped everything for the god knows how many times. Rebooted as I was reading hardcopies of the instructions. Checked the device manager which said the driver was functioning properly. Made sure the option was to USB port and it came back with could not communicate with monitor. The little yellow light lights up on the adaptor… this f’in sucks. I’m running XP and did all the updates.
I am going to sleep. If I can’t get it to work in the AM, I am taking it all back and getting the Ciclosport HAC4.
I guess you could try a different one to see if it’s isolated to that particular unit. It seems like you are computer literate so i can understand your frustration.
Dude I’ve both IrDA hardware (USB and COM) and if you are using the USB one I’d advice you to give up. After MONTHS trying to put this thing to work I just bought the COM Interface and the problems were gone.
I installed all drives and shit that they tell us to install and still the USB one didn’t work.
Btw… I’ve my USB for sale if anyone is interessed… I’m sure anyone can put this thing to work… (…NOOOTTT!)
I’m Telling you, man, it’s your IR device. I went through the same thing. Call Polar, they will send you a new one, and everything will work fine. Stop beating your head against the wall for no reason.
I have not had any problems with my S710i, either with a laptop with a built in irDA port, or a Polar USB interface. Irecently got my girlfriend a S710i also, with another USB interface. Both HRMs work with either interface on either of 2 PCs, one with Win98 and one with WinXP. If at all possible, try a different interface and/or HRM, or try a different PC. Come to think of it, it’s worked on my PC at work also.
Well last try in five. I found about 10 pages deep on the polar site a Microsoft update for USB drivers for the XP operating system. I loaded it and will give this all ONE more try and then Fredly I am following your advice. As far as the USB versus COM issue, I don’t think I can find a COM device short of Ebay. Anyway, here goes nothing.
