I have been using one with gel up front and a cutout. My fitter talked me out of the cutout style for my road bike arguing that less contact area means more pressure on the parts that have contact and quicker saddle breakdown.
So I need to do the same with my tri bike. Seems like these fizik’s seem to make a lot of people happy. Who has something that is easy on the taint and is good at maintaining steady radio contact with the boys?
x2 on the Fizik Tri 2. I went through 4 other saddles before I found the Fizik. I have still never tried the Azoto or the Adamo (the other 2 on the list if the Fizik failed me) although I have heard good things. Didn’t need to as my Arione treats me well.
I used to ride the Fizik Tri 2, which I loved, then I switched to the Adamo and haven’t looked back since. It is a strange looking saddle but it really is beneficial, for me at least, when I am in the aero position. It alleviates pressure on all of those sensitive nerves and is most likely “safer”. Got one for my girlfriend as well and she finally enjoys biking.
I was on the Fizik Tri 2 last year, loved it enough to do my first ironman on it last year. I did have a few issues with some numbing, but nothing that a few minutes out of the saddle wouldn’t fix. I’ve changed to a Adamo race for this season…after the “honeymoon” period, its awesome. Thinking about switching my road bike to an Adamo as well
Saddles are very personal and depends on your anatomy, weight, etc.
That being said the Adamo Race has been the best selling saddle in my store for the past 2 1/2 years. The next ones would be the Cobb Flow, Profile Design Tri Stryke, Arione Tri2, and the Selle SMP saddles. We have just under 30 saddles in the store for customers to try out during bike fits or on our indoor spin bike to help narrow down which ones might work for them. Most good shops will let you ride the saddle in the store at least and help narrow down the features you’re looking for (cutout, gel nose, width, etc.).

thanks everyone. I hadn’t planned on doing anything impulsive here but already had a feeling about the fizik given my success with a similarly designed bontrager on my road bike. the recs for the arione tri 2 had me mostly convinced. Given the price being about 150 for the metal railed one and about 250 for the carbon rails, I decided 40 grams for $100 was too wanker for me. I had to run an errand this morning right by my LBS so stopped in just to see if they had one for me to look at. After some looking around, they found one of last year’s in the carbon. I told them I wasn’t down for paying $250 for 40 less grams so wanted to find the metal railed one. They said the saddle was only $199, maybe because it’s last year’s? And their annual sale is on right now knocking 10% off. And since they didn’t have what I wanted, they would knock $20 off the price before deducting the sale 10%. So long story short, I couldn’t pass up the carbon one for $162. It looks extremely cool and my taint feels happy just at the though of it. So thanks everyone.
I just replaced the Fizik Arione on my tri bike with a V-Flow Plus. While the Arione was doing sort of ok for 2 hour road rides, the couple of spins I did on the trainer weren’t comfortable at all.
The V-Flow is really fitting well, zero pressure points and has the familiar curve of my old Flite Transalp’s. I dont feel like I have to keep moving around on the saddle and it actually works better in the aero position than on the drops.
I was kicking around the idea of an Adamo as well and I’m really happy I decided on the V-Flow Plus. The Fizik is now on the road bike because it seems to work great there.
I have the Airone Tri2 Carbon and I love it. My previous one was a Profile Stryke but it was starting to fall apart. I hear the Adamo is nice but keep in mind how short they are compared to other saddles. They are only 240mm’s long where the Airone and some others are 290-300. The length can really affect your fit. I bought a Selle SMP evo and had to sell it because it was too short. Just measure everything before you buy.
I just switched from the adamo to the Cobb V-Flow Plus and I am very happy. I have only had the V-flow on the trainer for a short time but so far it is amazing! I have used the adamo, road and race, Fizik tri 2, Profile Tri Strike w/ cutout, and Selle San Marco Aspide Triathlon gel, and the V-flow is the best yet! The Adamo was nice, I just seemed to have issues with shorts bunching. So far the v-flow is great, I have to ride 75 miles tomorrow outside so I hope to enjoy it!
Like many posters, the Arione Tri2 is my saddle of choice, but I would not overlook which bibs/shorts you pair your saddle with. Until I found the winning combination, I was not perfectly happy. For me the DeSoto 400 mile bibs and the AR2 are perfect.
