I’m going to attempt to modify my Elite Crono bottle to store my flat kit on my frame, but I was thinking I’d reach out for ideas from ST.
I am currently riding a 2010 Cannondale Slice frame and have an X-Lab Torpedo up front, and want to put a bottle BTS to refill the torpedo when I run out.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to best modify the Crono to put my flat kit in it? Attached my best ideas below. Thinking I will make “C”-shaped cuts since the plastic is rather thick and will “hinge” nicely, then I’ll use velcro to close it or electrical tape. Hopefully don’t have to touch it during my races!
what I’ve done on previous aero bottles is remove lid, cut straight down (center of hole) until you get enough room to access/fit everything you want in. Replace the lid to hold it together. (along with tape or whatever you feel is needed)
I did this exact mod on my Elite bottle to hold a spare tubular.
I cut a long slit with a Dremel on the underside of the bottle, and thus from the outside you dont see any modification. I can easily spread the cut edges open and get my tubular in/out as needed. I actually did have to use it for a flat at IM Vineman last year, worked perfectly!
CANT UPLOAD PICS due to size of files. PM me, and I will send you the pics of what exactly i did.
Crazy how people come to the same ideas, I just came yesterday to the idea of transforming an aero bottle to a flat kit bottle, and searching through the internet I found that same Elite bottle.
I want to put it on the bottom of the lower corner of the frame triangle of my P5.
My idea is to screw the bottle directly on the frame, so that I do not need the holder. You could do that too, you only have to take care that you adapt the bottle such that you can access the contents while it is attached to the frame.

What tubular are you using as a spare to be able to fit in the chronos bottle?
I did what Taugen said when I had mine. I cut it length wise on the “underside/bottom”, used some black duct tape + the bottle cage and that secured everything in there just fine. Never had any issues with it.

The Torhans VR bottle does that incredibly well too. I’ve had mine set up that way for a few years and besides being very easy to cut and fix, it fits really well to fill in that area.
Hey many years later just wanna say thanks hugely for this. Have just modified exactly as u did in the pics, and will duct tape it in place as these cronos aero bottles come out when u blow on them.
