I currently have an Xterra transition bag that has served me well for a couple of years now, but since I got a new aero helmet, my dad has been paranoid about it getting damaged, because it does not really fit in a full bag. What larger bags would you recommend that I look at, and ask my parents for for christmas?
I’ve got the Ogio Endurance 9.0 and love it. My helmet doesn’t have a tail, however, so I can’t personally speak to how it will fit a helmet with a longer tail. Overall, the bag is awesome and can fit my helmet (with a designated wet storage area), wetsuit, shoes, and more. It has a loop that I can use to hang it, as well as shoulder straps so I can wear it on a bike (e.g., choosing to ride to a workout as opposed to driving).
Not sure if this is the best price - just the first place I found it.
(How much damage could you do to a helmet without crashing with it?) I’d just go to Walmart and grab the cheapest athletic bag of appropirate size that has a shoulder strap. I like these better than backpack type bags since I can see everything in there without having to remove items.
This Zoot Ultra Tri Bag has served me well. Don’t think you would ever run out of room, fits my Rudy Wingspan, separate compartment for wetsuit, water bottle holders, and a race day checklist printed on an inside flap! Very well made too.
I just orded a De Soto Transition7 bag. There are some great sales going on now. I may also by a large Speedo swim bag. This seems to be the time to buy this stuff.
What I was looking for was a large bag that would hold enough of my things to complete an Iron Man. Go big. You can always put less stuff in the bag.
The Orca transition bag is also excellent… internal dedicated compartments do help u remember to load everything in and then locate when your head is a shed… good kit…

Also, take a look at the Zipp Transition bag. Not cheap but very high quality…solid zippers…all the right features and lots of well-organized pockets. I’ve had mine for two years…still think its one of the best out there.
I use the Zipp gear bag for carrying all of my cycling stuff. The helmet netting seems small for an aero helmet, so I just put mine in the bad. I have Wingspan, which easily fits in with all of my clothes, nutrition, etc. I use the pockets inside for my Garmin, safety pins, and other race stuff.
I will have to say that I have really enjoyed my Ogio Endurance 9.0. It is able to carry all my stuff for every race that I have done including 140.3 events. If you have a Rudy project it will fit comfortably in this bag. I can’t speak to aero helmets with longer tails, but my Rudy and Tardiz fit just fine in this bag. I would buy from Amazon because it is quite a bit cheaper than Ogio’s online store.
I purchased the Tyr Elite Convoy bag which is very expensive. It failed on me with horrible stitching. The pocket on the top was not sewed shut properly at all, and lost a wallet, money, Oakley glasses, goggles, hotel keys, car keys, etc.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a beautiful bag…BUT quality control must be horrible wherever they are manufactured!!
I was very disappointed. I wrote 2 letters, and didn’t get back any kind of response at all.
I have a zoot ultra tri bag from 2012 and although everything is well made, the zippers are absolute crap. Each one (and you know there are plenty) have broken on me from gentle pull. My GF bought the same bag from this year and the zippers have improve tremendously. I am just hoping i’d have waited for mine since i have about 7 tie-wrap instead of zipper.
X2 on Zooey ultra tri bag! Zippers are a slight weak spot, I’ve only broken one so far. Otherwise, really we’ll designed, compartments for everything. Barely fits my giro aero helmet with long tail. A trick to reinforce the helmet is to put gloves, arm warmers, etc and then cross brace the inside with an Oakley case (race jacket) in order to keep the ear covers/ sides from getting bent. I like the wetsuit section a lot as well, keeps all the wets tuff isolated.
Fits everything beautifully and can ride with it comfortably. Chest and hip straps super supportive. Should harness is comfy. Bag is huge tho. Would work for ani kind of race, including im.
