I’ve been hitting the pool somewhat religiously the past few weeks for once and have almost gotten to the point of tolerating swimming. I can handle the chlorine smell, dry hair, cracked skin, red eyes , etc. but the goggle marks are hard to hide. I have a very interactive job with the public and feel like a dork with red marks on my face until noon. So what can I do? I have tried loosening the goggles (latest pair are the kaimen (sp?) by aquasphere) but that doesn’t seem to help. I have worn the sealmask before but that produces a ring around my face, not just the eyes. Any suggestions or do I have to start swimming after work and not before?
there is no way I would go meet a client after swimming. save yourself, and go after work.
I use a product from Shisedo, it’s called something like eye rejuvenator, you just pat some lightly around the eye, and by the time I get to work (40min later), it’s not too bad. 1 more hr at work and they’re gone. I’ll dig the real name up and get back to you. But ask at any good cosmetics counter for something to help.
You can also minimize the time you wear then, by popping them ontop of your head when you do kick, at the end of sets, during your rests, etc. That has helped me a lot.
BTW: we call them goggle hickeys
use sweedish goggles.
If your skin is not returning to it’s “pre-goggle” shape you need to hydrate more. Drink water.
And those Swedish goggles, I hope you’re kidding.
Absolutely agree…Swedes are the way to go.
It may seem to defy all logic, but the amount of raccoon eyes really went dramatically down when I switched over to swedes in high school.
If you can tolerate the swedish goggles, great, they do impact a smaller area around your eyes, but some including me find them uncomfortable. A good alternative is Barracuda goggles - big soft foam eyepieces. No good for dive starts but they’ll stay on fine during push starts and flip turns and are really comfortable. Spendy to start but rebuildable with an inexpensive kit so the long term cost is actually pretty low - I’ve had my current pair for many years.
Been using Aquasphere Seal mask for a while. Great for races (can’t get kicked off) and works well in the pool. It’s the only pair of goggles Ive worn that didn’t hurt and leave a mark. The greater surface area and soft silicone seal are easier on the skin. The mark fades after minutes.
Go Swedish - for goggles too.
I am surprised no-one has mentioned this yet but…
just don’t go to work.
damn! you’re a freaking genius! that’s the answer!
lol!!! I love it!
