Help! I've fallen and I can't get up!

I’ve fallen off the training wagon and I’m having trouble getting back on. I’ve got a lengthy list of excuses that I won’t list here because I’m sure if I really thought about them they wouldn’t hold water and you guys would probably see right through them. So my question is this; has this ever happened to you and if so, how the heck did you get back on track? I’m lacking motivation and inspiration right now which is a new thing for me. I’m going to the AG Oly Worlds in Sept. and I’ve just wasted a month when I could have been building a good base, pissewd about that. Getting back on here a few days ago has already gotten my fat ass out of bed to snowshoe this morning, just need to keep the momentum going I guess.

Any comments positive or negative would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no more cookies until the training starts up again.

Go to a race and spectate. Or if there aren’t any going on right now in your area, rent/youtube a couple of IM videos. That always fires me up.
You realize that is where you belong. Not sitting on the couch like the “masses”.

Sounds like you might be a little burned out of tris at the moment. Maybe spend some time focusing on snowshoeing, xcountry skiing, etc. All of those can help build an incredible base but don’t necessarily feel like “tri” training. May be just the thing you need to get back in shape and then when you’re ready you’ll be mentally fresh to start actual tri training.

LOL!

To the OP:

SUCK IT UP AND GO RUN.

When you’re done, it will feel good.

Taking a good hard look at my flabby body in the mirror usually works after a long training break. Take a picture and put it somewhere you can’t miss it…

With clothes on, right?

Thanks. I think you might be on to something here. My job is skiing actually so I get in a lot of physical activity and because I’m out on the snow almost every day I’ve got a couple of small nagging injuries. Nothing major but I think they’re contributing to my lack of motivation and I’m using them as excuses.

As little clothing as can be seen publicly

Although appearance clearly isn’t the primary factor that drives most of us, sometimes it can be the kick to get re-started…

You’re going to AG Oly worlds and you’ve wasted a whole month already!!?
You’re gonna regret it as I blow by you on the bike.
Time to pony up and get out there princess! It’s not too late.
In fact, don’t even finish reading this post…

I didn’t blow the whole month but I didn’t stick to the plan. I started “really” training for IMC last year in March and pulled off a sub 11 hour time. I’m not worried about blowing up on the bike but I like to race FOP in an Oly distance. Thanks for the visual though, good ammo for my ride after work!

That’s a keeper! Thanks.

Qualification for Worlds, is that what the Gold Membership at USAT gets you? Well here’s the good news, even the Worlds race has a BOP. Population: you.

Ouch! Thanks. I spent a bit of time in the military, this sort of motivation works for me, I freakin’ hate losing!

External motivation will get you through the next workout, but not the next 20. There are worse months than February to learn that you just don’t want it. Accept it and act accordingly, or STFU and go to work.

I think this will always be my favorite motivational video. Love it

I know what you mean. In the past I’ve found that if I can get on a roll with my training then I stick to it. As soon as I slip for a few days it’s easier to make an excuse to skip another workout and then another until a week goes by of drinking beer and eating pizza (I love beer and pizza!). I guess the “take it one day at a time” cliche fits here.

Pick your favorite sport of the 3. Find a training group in your area (preferably with people faster then you). Start actually training for fun again.

Either that or hire a coach to hold you accountable.

That’s my new favourite too! Awesome!
