Help, I need to find a new racing flat!

For the past 3 years I’ve run in the Saucony Shay XC and XC2 racing flats. Yes, they are designed for cross country, but I use them for triathlon. I like them because I have a long skinny foot and the shoes have almost no heel. The XC3s have a new upper that feels cheap and kills my foot.

Please give me some other options.

(I’m eyeballing the Asics HyperXCs)

Just throwing out another option to you. It’s a few mm lower to the ground. Slip on, got me through anything from 5k to 100 miles. The sliver is on sale for $77 http://skorarunning.com/catalog/category/onsale/id/9/ The Form, which is the same platform but a goat/sheep leather upper, lasted me 1100 miles. So, they’re built to last too

Long and skinny? You owe it to yourself to try out the Newton MV2. They took :45 off of my 5k…

Brooks T7 is pretty narrow and super flexible. I’ve only worn them up to 10K and have had no issues. Even raced a mud run in them and they suprisingly did well in the mud.

My Nike Zoom Streak XCs are skinny and flat
.

Depending on your age, have considered the Hoka One One Bondi Speed?

Look at the Brooks Mach 14 spikeless. I have the Mach 12 spikeless for anything off road and I love them. However, they do run pretty small. I would suggest purchasing full size larger than what you normally wear.

If you have liked Saucony in the past, I don’t know how you haven’t tried the Type A5 yet. It is one of the best selling tri/road flats in the market and is the best selling flat (period) in Florida. You are truly spinning your wheels if you don’t try a pair. I assume you’re talking about the Shay XC, and the new FlexFilm upper. The design and materials are actually much more durable, but doesn’t feel like a normal upper. The internal volume, last, and outsole configuration have not changed a bit from the first generation, but the upper has gotten some changes. If you like the feel of an XC flat, the Kilkenny XC5 could be a good option. It is the #1 selling flat in the US (according to Leisure Trends market watch) for the past 3 years, and fits like an XC flat should. The Brooks flat (Mach 14) is a joke compared to the Kilkenny. If you want to stay in an XC flat, the Kilkenny is undoubtably the way to go. But if you want to go with a road flat, the Type A5 is the best in the market, again.

I’ve thought about the Mach 14s but they look like they are made for someone who is pigeon toed. I mean, the forefoot looks like its angled inward quite a bit. Maybe its worth a shot.

Thanks, I don’t know why I’ve never tried the Kilkenny. I’ll check out those A5s too. Thanks for the input.
