I went to change the cables on my DA levers(shift/brake), but I am feeling like an idiot!! How do I get the shift cable out of the shift lever?? I removed the 2 little screws but I still dont see the cable end??
Help!!!

try clicking through the shifter a couple times. the barrel that holds the cable in should rotate around so you can see it and push the cable on through.
Just like Slowguy said, click trought the gears until you are in the smallest gear (11t or 12t) in the back. You will be able to push the cable out of the shifter at this point.
Actually on DA levers there’s a small cover that is held on with a lettle screw. Unscrew the screw (carefeul not to drop it) and remove the cover, this leaves the end of the shift cable exposed.

OK, so I did this, and was able to get the cable out…but now I can’t get the new cable in!!! I can’t see how that metal knob on the end of the cable can fit into the lever…it can’t seem to find a place to seat down into the lever…
…as I push the lever all the way through it’s full throw inward, shouldn’t there be a large depression or something for that metal knob on the cable to fit into on the outside?? That darn metal cable stop won’t slide in???

A couple things come to mind. First, make sure you’re using the shifter cables, not a set of brake cables because the heads are different sizes (shifter should have a cylinder and the brake should have a more spherical knob) and the cables are also a different gage. Second, make sure you have the shifter shifted to the top gear, and pull the lever down (like you’re braking) before inserting the cable. Third, the rear and front shifters are not exactly the same. The rear one has a slot for the shifter knob. The front is a little differnt.
In case you need it, this link should get you the STI instruction sheet with some diagrams
Done!! Thanks! ![]()
