Flying Pig is not an obvious PR course, but not particularly difficult either. I recall that the hills come roughly in miles 10-13. The last seven or eight miles seemed pretty flat. I ran it about four minutes slower than my PR two weeks after doing Boston.
I liked the Pig as an event. Many reasonable places to stay, convenient start area, nice crowd support, good post-race party. Thumbs up.
I’ve done Flying Pig several times, and know the guy organizing the pace teams there, so the pacing should be competent.
It’s a hilly race in the middle miles, with some flat riverfront (kinda bleak) miles at the end. Overall, it’s a great event, always good swag. Is it a PR course, not really, but you do get the hills out of the way while you’re still fresh.
If a PR is truly your goal for whatever reason, Cleveland much easier (but the course if a bit different from when I did the old Revco one many moons ago). But, the Flying Pig is a far better marathon experience for sure. From about mile 9 to 13 or so though, it is quite hilly as mentioned.
