Helmet straps too long - kids

Is there a way to shorten the total length of straps on a Giro Scamp helmet (size extra small)?

I’ve adjusted the strap dividers to be just below the ears. I tightened buckle as far as possible, but it is still too long. Is there anything to do?

Even up the ends, cut them with scissors, and then take a match and LIGHTLY burn the ends so the will not fray. Takes > 5 minutes. Do it for all my new helmets.

If anyone else has the same problem - you can just pull out the black plastic plug on the back of the helmet to adjust the webbing on each side.
