Helmet stickers

I was at a tri and the usat official would not let 4 people race who 's sticker had wore off the inside of their helmet. These were expensive and newer helmets. If you sweat a lot or wash your helmet those stickers will come off/fade very quickly. I do not have an answer maybe the helmet companies should make the stickers waterproof. I had not checked my helmet , i was lucky that I still had a sticker. It could get expensive buying a new helmet each year.

Seems like a warning would have been enough for the offical instead of ruining someone’s race day.

i have an answer but modern people can’t handle it

.

my sticker is definitely worn off, but i use a regular road helmet so i guess they arent really looking at me anyways.

I think there was a similar post about officials/helmet stickers last tri season. It seems unfair, but someone on the older thread suggested keeping your helmet turned right side up in the bike area.

Note: I also agree with jackmott

Or you can do what I did when I got a new helmet - put on a clear protective coating. Works well and no worry it will be sweated out. Of course, my old Bell never got “sweated out” in 4 years so maybe I’m worrying about nothing.

There was a similar post a year or so ago. I then covered my sticker with clear packing tape so it wouldn’t come off. I’m sure that’s in violation of some rule just doing that so please don’t turn me in.

Don’t train in your aero helmet and you should be fine.

but how am I going to keep up on the charity rides then?

No violation.

racing me with TAPOUT stickers all over my helmet. you first. looking forward to it jack.

I think they are draft legal, so just suck in close to the leaders, although after watching the giro italy this morning, drafting seems a lot less fun. They were “rubbing” more than the NASCAR race last night.

the roads there are designed to murder pelotons

but even europeans can just htfu and deal with peloton murdering roads

It seems like there may a market for replacement stickers. Surely someone could print them up and sell them.

At Wildflower, Virgina Berasategui was told she couldn’t use her aero helmet because it doesn’t have the proper sticker (I assume because it was a foreign company). I saw this and let her borrow my extra aero helmet, but the officials mean business when they won’t let the returning champ race without the sticker.

Drew

the lawyers who are going to sue dont though.

It seem kind of ridiculous that we live in a world where they won’t let you race for something like that despite the fact everyone there can whip out their iphones and go to the manufactures website, see pictures of your exact helmet, and see the certifications it meets. Talk about missing the point of the rule book.

Here’s a thought, whats more dangerous: the guy with the sticker rubbed off; or the guy who’s still using his helmet after he crashed it three times.

What I find more odd than that is that they can’t or won’t or don’t just visually inspect the helmets which all officials should know by heart the make and manufactures if they are worried about cheapies or knock offs which I’m assuming might be a case along with knowing how to tell if they are real, same difference, and sufficient as in race ready meaning not cracked or containing a defect despite stickers, not that a sticker would let you know if it contains a defect if it has been already used.

I thought basketball refs were quick to give penalties, this triathlon rulebook stuff is just ridiculous.

Seriously!

yeah totally. any avid slowtwitcher would be up to date on the latest helmets and gear. those officials are living under a rock.
