Heisman finalists

So many questions:

Who’s your pick?
Was Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker snubbed?
Should they rename it the Heisman Best QB award?
Are you an automatic finalist if your team is ranked #1?

The finalists:

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud

TCU quarterback Max Duggan

USC quarterback Caleb Williams

It’s the QBs of 3 playoff teams and the QB of a team that just missed the playoff. I really think winning the Heisman is a just a function of how much ESPN talks about you.

I would probably give it to Williams, but honestly I’ve only seen him play a couple of time.

Stetson Bennett. No contest. Go Dawgs!!!

4 QBs? Yes, that’s a lousy system. QB is the important position, but it’s still way over-represented.

Stetson Bennett. No contest. Go Dawgs!!!

Please. He’s the modern day Gino Torretta.

Not too often has the reigning Heisman not been selected as a finalist. Jameis Winston is the only other one I can think of off the top of my head (which was probably largely due to his off the field issues)

Should they rename it the Heisman Best QB award?

Of course.

There have been 38 QB winners.
41/42 RBs (Reggie Bush)
6 receivers
and Charles Woodson

RBs dominated the first 20 years.
Over the last 24 years (since Woodson), 5 RB, 1 WR, the rest QBs.

Four trophies have gone to guys who got over 90% of the votes: 3 recent QBs and Reggie Bush. Mariota, Troy Smith, and Joe Burrow were the other three.

Also, I wonder what percentage of votes the winner will end up with? I have a guy feeling it’s gonna be kinda low. Maybe less than 45%? They would be the lowest since 2001

Stetson Bennett. No contest. Go Dawgs!!!

National Champion, Heisman trophy winner and college football hall of famer???

Interesting to look at the list of winners and see how many are as good as expected (or not as good) in the NFL.

In the past 10 years, leaving out Bryce Young -

YES: J. Burrow, K. Murray (though he could fall to MAYBE, D. Henry, L. Jackson,

NO: B. Mayfield, M. Mariota (he hasn’t played up to his Heisman potential), J. Manziel

MAYBE: J. Winston, D. Smith (being overshadowed by AJ Brown)

The college game is far different from the NFL. Some players can adapt and some cannot. It’s like ITU vs Ironman.

Stetson Bennett. No contest. Go Dawgs!!!

Played for a loaded team. Drafted in 7th round and flamed out at the pro level. Yeah, that guy. Having said that I have no idea how Stinson is going to turn out as a pro, if he makes it that far.

Does a total of 2 games played - 5 - 16 - 41 yards - 1 TD - 1 INT count as a flameout? Sounds more like the fire never caught.

They should defer announcement until champion crowned as really this is a weak lot. If Stetson pulls it off for a second time consecutively and plays well, give it to him. And a movie. Pulling for Dawgs!

Ouch

Johnny Heisman can suck it. Stetson Bennett was a walk on and now two time national champion. Go Dawgs!

Used to be the kiss of death for a Heisman QB in the NFL.

Most outstanding player not the QB of the national champion. I personally believe they get it wrong most years

Some football programs spend money and empathize on big PR media as it then helps with future recruiting. Hello USC and Notre Dame. It is nice to see the perseverance displayed by the not so young Stetson Bennett and the non hype from the UGA program.

It seems top recruits to Georgia also place importance on how many NFL players come from the program and let their performance on the field do their talking.
