Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth apparently shared “detailed information” about the bombings in Yemen with a second group chat on Signal that included his wife, brother, and lawyer, the New York Times [reported Sunday. The outlet spoke with “four people with knowledge of the chat.”
The information shared included “the flight schedules for the F/A-18 Hornets targeting the Houthis in Yemen” — more or less the same information that was also [accidentally shared] with the Atlantic’s editor Jeffrey Goldberg.
Hegseth’s wife Jennifer is a former Fox News producer who has been criticized for attending sensitive meetings alongside her husband. His brother Phil Hegseth and lawyer Tim Parlatore work at the Pentagon.
supposedly he is payrolled under DHS and works as a liaison between Pete and Kristi. The EO report on insurrection status is due this week. One would think it has brother Phil’s fingerprints all over it.
As for his wife, pillow talk taken to a new level.
Imagine being all of the brass with their distinguished careers and a full on commitment to serving our country with honor and integrity, having to stand by why this has all gone on.
It is such a slap in the face to all they have done for us.
this and Sphere’s post in the cabinet thread makes me wonder if Mrs Hegseth is co-running (or actually running) the operation.
not unheard of of course, but the opportunities to leak to Fox et al are of concern when career trumps country, as appears to be the case with most of these appointees
With a second signal scandal, could this be grounds for impeachment? I realize Dems are outnumbered so it won’t happen. I guess I’m just trying to figure out, how much worse and what would it take to get Republicans to finally say “enough is enough”
Lisa Murkowski recently had public statements saying her and most other Republicans are fearful of Trump. (while obvious, she actually stated it in public) So this might be another reason, nothing happens. But at what point do Republicans in Congress finally do something?
When not impeaching trump costs them the thing that they hold most dear - their seats. I believe that there are a lot of Republicans who would love for something to happen that would turn enough people against trump so that they could impeach him. They are probably tired of getting yelled at by their constituents for things that he’s doing. They’re just waiting for the right tide.
She has tried to toe the moderate line for soo long without ever impacting a single thing.
I would not expect her to do anything other than create a moderate candidate smokescreen to try to hold onto votes all while continuing to support the current power structure.
And I get that some rightfully fearful as I read somewhere that some were even receiving death threats if they crossed Trump. So understand the need to wait for the right tide or wave. I think a lot of Republicans are seeing their own people suffer from the tariffs, dismantling the govt and other policies. And these are angry constituents won’t vote for them in the primaries. Plus I would like to believe that not all Republicans are MAGA and truly care for things like due process, the constitution, democracy…
While you are probably right, I hope that these very “not normal” times will inspire her to do more and show some courage. Susan Collins needs to do more too.
Impossible. He’s every bit as qualified as the SecDefs before him said our resident MAGA gaslighter. I for one trusted his judgement. Boy howdy did this come as a surprise.
Mr. Hegseth called the president around 8 p.m., said the person, who asked for anonymity to discuss a private conversation. The president told Mr. Hegseth that disgruntled “leakers” were to blame for the report and made clear that he had Mr. Hegseth’s back. The president also said he had plenty of experience dealing with leakers.
Mr. Trump then instructed his team to publicly defend Mr. Hegseth.
