I have Vanquish V2 62 (non Pro). I don’t have any complaints but never had the Pro version to compare it to. The ~50g weight difference or 4 vs 5 pawls isn’t really a concern for me.
The Vanquish Pro is the only way to get the 84mm depth. I rode the older Vanquish Non-Pro’s (62mm front and rear) and now ride the new Vanquish Pro (62/84 combo), along with the Disc for race day. Very nice wheels, and nicely optimized for 28’s.
They’re on sale now but it’s probably fine to get the 62mm Non-Pro front to save a few bucks. The dimensions are the same.
I recently went through a front wheel purchase decision. Have used HEDs for years on my older P5 and needed front wheel for new Trek SC. Came down to HEDs, the Bonts or DT Swiss. Was a little concerned the HEDs only have an 80lb pressure limit where the Bonts and DT are 120 and 102 lb limits. Really preferred to stay with American built HED but my bike shop got me a good deal on the DT Swiss.
yes. The pawls are the the little things that engage the teeth in the hub when you start peddling. Having more pawls increases your points of engagement (how quickly wheel starts moving when peddling)
I have the non Pro 62 and the previous generation 8s, which are the Pro version (I think). Can’t say I notice any differences in quality or performance. I just got a notice from HED that they are running their seasonal discounts, so grab a pair on sale
I have 62mm front and back non pro and also the pro 82/disc. I can’t really tell much difference between the pro and non pro when they are in my hands other than the obvious size difference.
FWIW - I spoke to HED yesterday and asked for a recommendation on Pro vs. Non-Pro as I was looking for a pair of 60mm deep wheels. The HED repo recommended the non-Pro. I think the only reason you would go Pro is to get the 84mm deep wheel.
