Hed Stinger - how to identify age?

I recently bought a second hand stinger 9 and am struggling to work out the age of it.

Can anyone help? Serial number begins with a 10 - not sure if this denotes 2010?

Judging by the carbon weave and the hub its a 2010…if/when you take/change the tire on the bed will be the month/year was put together, what shop it was sold to and so other random tidbits
.

Thanks Mike. I was told it was a 2008 which I found hard to believe given the rim width.

The fabric weave is the same as my 08 Stingers, but that probably wouldn’t change significantly year-to-year anyway. The 08 hub is slightly smaller in diameter in the center than it is at the edges near the spokes. The 08 Stingers also had clear coat over the graphics such that they couldn’t be removed without substantial resurfacing work. My money is on 09 or newer.

looks like my 09 stinger 6…

I vote for 2009.

Interesting…I just took a look at my Stinger 5s which I purchased new last fall (2011). The serial number does indeed begin with an ‘11’ so perhaps you have 2010 model Stingers on your hands. Hope this helps.

a bit OT

what brakes are you guys running?

My new-to-me Stinger 6 wheels won’t work with Sram Rival brakes.

and while we are at it, what brake pads do you use?

Thanks

I can run that serial number but quickly it looks to be a 2010 built wheel based on rim panels and hub. Fast!

You can really use just about any pad you want. Yellow Swissstops melt to the rim so anything else. Keep the pads clean and you should be good to go.
SRAM Red brakes will open wide for the wider rims. Everything else either works or requires minor modifications. Ciao

Thanks Ian. My curiosity nearly had me ripping the tub off yesterday to have a look at the label mentioned above. But then I thought about having to stick it back on again!

Grazie mille!
