I’m not going to go into specifics because I don’t want to look like a jackass, but I emailed hed about a technical problem I had with a wheel. I asked them if the thought they could undo the damage that I had done. Instead of asking me to send it in, Andy from Hed told me how to fix the problem on my own. His solution worked great. They could have charged me a ton to fix what I had done, but instead they treated me with respect. I am on my second Hed wheelset, but I think they have earned a customer for life.
Good to hear - I just ordered the 2009 Jet 60 earlier in the week. Seems to be one of the best deals in terms of value/price/performance. Andy had actually answered my email questions about fit with my Scott Plasma. Can’t wait for the arrival.
When I was looking at an affordable wheelset, HED was on my list. The techies answered all my questions quickly, even went in depth about which wheels handle yaw better in certain conditions. After I bought a 60/90 set and had some build up from the brake pads, they told me how to clean it off easily. Andy at HED has been very helpful every time. I guess that STrs look out for one another.
As an old guy, I have had the pleasure of being in Triathlon since 1981. Like some of the “old Guard”, I first started with a Hed disc in 1984, added a “tri-Spoke” soon after, and so it went. Steve and Anne (MacDonnel, early '80s pro)Hed were super nice people and they turned out innovative, solid wheels…at a sane price for the performance.
Flash forward to 2009(? oh S**t!, I am old! Time flies!)
They are turning out stuff that advances the state of the art ( C2 Wide rim technology must be ridden to be appreciated)
It still has the feel of a family operation…probably because several family members seem to be in action.
But the performance and technology are again advancing the state of the technology. Whether it is us or Lance A., Steve Hed and Co. are moving forward…Good stuff.
Example: I have a pro shop and had to call up Tim at Hed the other day (had a wobbly wheel in my stock), in the process of taking care of our wheel(and making yet another happy camper in the process) he told me more about what works best in what conditions than I have learned in any 20 minute conversation that I have have had before.
I love these people…they have their heads and hearts in the right place, and the work hard to make their stuff awesome …thanks guys!
Interesting, I am in the market for new race wheels this season and narrowed it down to the Hed Jet 6 c2/Jet 9 c2 or the Zipp 404/606 set up. I emailed Hed twice, once in December and more recently on Monday to ask some questions about the 2009 line and their suggestions. I still have not heard back. I have heard that they have great customer service but I have to admit up to this point I am less than impressed. Did you guys call or E-Mail? Maybe they are too busy with team orders?
I’ve always just called. On one occassions I actually spoke to Steve. I’ve dealt mainly with Andy and the service was fantastic. I had a bad Stinger a few years back and Andy just shipped me a new one with instructions to return (prepaid) the old one. No questions asked.
Hey, no need to worry about looking like a jackass here. This is a friendly place. Indeed, if you had posted your problem we could have solved it for you – and others could have learned.
Just so everyone knows, if you find that you have a skewer installed from the wrong side, you can simply unscrew it, being careful to not drop the centering springs, and then install from the other side.
We agree Hed a bargin in the high end wheel world. Forsure under the radar.
Our shop would love to help you with a set of high end wheels. If you act during our sale we will offer 10-20% off msrp and some wheels as much as 40%.
Email bicycledoctor@att.net and ask for the wheel sale list, 100s to pick from.

HED wheels are weak! I purchased HED 3C wheels in the spring of 2005 and in a small race April 2006 with the wheels I crashed. My wheels - they both broke. It took some time to save the money to buy them. I wrote an email to HED explaining what happened. Here is part of it: Yesterday morning I
cracked both of my HED 3 Carbon wheels in a small tri held in Cape
Girardeau, MO (Steamboat Triathlon). I broke them in a crash in the
middle of the road. I just can’t figure out how both my wheels cracked; a
train definitely did NOT run me over.
HED was kind enough to offer to replace them for $942 plus $35 in shipping.
No thanks…
I purchased Mavics b/c they take care of their customers.
