HED R1 road bike - addition to G. Tingley's Stinger 9.0 post

reminds me of the Giant carbon frame at first glance but then it has interesting angles on the frame to work well at different yaw angles I would think…kind of like the thinking behind the HED3 wheels…Bunnyman care to comment? anyone else?

Reminds me more of a Kestrel 200. Short chainstays, true monocoque construction, the wishbone seatstays seem the only obvious departure. Any idea of the seat tube angle?

Nice understated ‘skunk works’ style looks. I like it but the geometry is not for me.

This bike looks just like the new Raleigh carbon.

Looks like a great ad for the Taiwanese bike manufacturing industry, from frame to wheels.

I’m just trying to make an observation here, not imply anything about Taiwanese manufacturing, which I admire.

Looks like a world collective with Italian groupset and saddle and the Stem, bars and seatpin from England!

Saw this one at the trade show… the pics don’t do it justice as usual.

Hey, creepy signature man. Isn’t that from “Silence of the Lambs”?

I agree, me thinks the Raleigh and HED are one-and-the-same.

speaking of resemblence of HED bikes:

Your picture is of their track bike, but no matter, the have the carbon seat-stay TT bike in “final Production” and Road magazine lists it’s price at $1300.00 - 300.00 cheaper than HED. I assume these companies are related to one another in one form or another.

yeah I realize that its a trackbike - it wouldnt be too hard for the factory to tweak the dropouts and bottom bracket to make the HED V04 design to a trackbike

regardless - the similarities are enough to make you wonder…

planet-x is a UK based company (along with its sister company on-one)

outside the UK its mainly only known for its mountain (urban/street/trials) bikes

Intriguing… the new HED frames are produced in Spain.

Hed were a co-sponsor of the Planet X Road/TT race team. They used Hed wheels, aerobars and I think used the hed time trial frame last year. This team includes Kevin Dawson who before the move road a Lightspeed blade with Zipp wheels at stupid speeds over all time trial distances in 2003

50 miles 1:38:33 100miles= 3:22:45 12hours 296.96 miles combined average speed - 28.260 mph

Know if only he could run and swim fast GB might have a new Ironman star.

Ahhh, that would explain the H3’s w/Planet X logo’s! Maybe there’s a licensing agreement; HED doesn’t seem to be the kind of company that would use a generic design just to have their name on a frame. Anyways, just goes to show there are fewer and fewer original designs out there (which is why I love my Kuota Kredo!). Of course, it’s also hard to find a “bad” bike anymore, so I guess it’s all good.
