HED Jet+Rims TL tire choice 5000 s tr or the Newest Pirelli P zero race TLR

I have many HED Jet wheels and ran gp5000 with latex for last 2 years. Thinking of jumping to tubeless and knowc contis can be awful getting on, I’ve experienced it myself. I know the s tr is better than the former tr it is replacing. Is it worth the hassle to go the p zero race for an easier mounting or not worth the lost 2 watts lost?

Any input on the p zero would be appreciated. I also know that the p zero is a 26 versus the 25s I’ve been running

I’m a big fan of GP5000 clincher tires with latex tubes.

I don’t know if this will be helpful or not becuz I’m not familiar with p zero. For racing, I went from gp5000/latex/25 to gp5000s tr/tubeless/25 and this year I’m switching to gp5000 tt tdf/tubeless/front 25 & rear 28. Tubeless sealant is Silca ultimate. Wheels are Vision Metron 81s.

With tubeless, in my limited experience, silca has sealed the ‘normal’ punctures. The big punctures where the tire needs to be removed are race ending so I don’t worry about difficulty in removal. Even then in the worst case, contis can be changed using tire levers. Personally I’d go with the watt savings.

Not sure about the Jet+ but on the Hed RC Pro, the GP5000 S TR set up as tubeless with 2 wraps of rim tape is the easiest tire i’ve ever mounted. They just about fall on, no levers needed.

That is awesome to hear! Thanks. I haven’t mounted one yet, but have some waiting.

I was previously using GP5000 TR on Parcours wheels. Went to put them back on after a season’s use and couldn’t get them to go on, they’d always been tight. Switched to the GP5000S TR and they went straight on, no problems. I think they’re a significant improvement in terms of ease of fit.

I haven’t ridden Gp5Ks yet, but am running Pirelli P Zero Races on my HED Vanquish wheels and they have been easy to deal with.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Looks like the new S TR versions are a different breed. Glad they listened to the masses!

Anyone have experience with the new Conti ASTR tires?

I recently set up a pair of 25c Conti GP5000 TT TDF tubeless on Hed Jets without much effort.

same. a really smooth experience.

Just purchased a SP tri bike. They are made by A Squared bikes out of Lake Oswego, Oregon. Since it’s disc brakes I had to get new wheels. Opted for 90/60 Hed Jets. In the rear I’m running a Cinturato by Pirelli. It’s a 32. And I run it at 62 psi for time trial. Up front is a Conti 4000s 25 mm. A fairly plush ride, even on some of the rougher pavement. They have tubes now but soon will be tubeless

Looks like closer to 4 watts lost x 2 tires = 8 watts. Not great IMO

Something I’m having trouble with my gp5000s is leakage through the sidewalls. One tire sealed up with almost no issue. The other however has been a struggle. I’m running 30ml of regular Stan’s to keep crr as low as possible and the problem tire I have resorted to leaving it on its side and tipped to touch the countertop so the sealant flows to cover one side of a segment at a time and moving it 20-30° and letting it sit for a few hours until I get around the entire wheel then flip and repeat on the other side. Before I started this process, it was deflating in less than a day. I sprayed a soapy solution on the wheel and tire thinking it was a leaky rim tape only to see hundreds of sidewall bubbles.

I have used both first and second generation of the Continental TL and TR tires. Lots of punctures, extremely hard to mount.

Switched to the new Pirelli Zero Race TR tires and I absolutely love them. Great ride quality, easy to deal with, and touch wood on the punctures issue. Highly recommend!

I don’t believe that the amount of sealant in a tubeless tire has any effect on rolling resistance.

I didn’t know that, thanks

Maybe just use GP5000 clincher tires with latex tubes.

Try using Stan’s Race or Orange Seal. Both tend to work better as a sidewall treatment on initial install with tires that are extremely porous.

Isn’t the Vittoria Corsa Speed TR tire faster than those two?
