I am noticing that some companies are now making carbon rim clincher wheels to shave some weight. Xentis and Reynolds are 2 that i know of. I am very interested in the Hed Jet C2 60 and 90 but am wondering why they dont offer the carbon rim clincher version?
Any Hed representatives here pls?
thanx in advance.
I’m not a Hed rep, but I can tell you there is no advantage to a carbon clincher rim. They are hardly any lighter and much more expensive to make. The Hed Jet wheels are a GREAT DEAL, even at full retail. Check the retail prices of the carbon clincher wheels…Xentis, Reynolds, Bontrager, etc…
Plus there’s the hassle of special brake pads that you have to use on carbon rims that you SHOULDN’T use on your aluminum training wheels … so if you race a lot, you’re constantly switching back and forth. Not that it’s hard … it’s just one more detail for race day. I could use fewer details on race day.
to me, the whole advantage of the HED’s versus the Zipps are the aluminum rims (not carbon!). If you want a structural carbon wheel go with the zipps, they have wider-rimmed versions too.
but to the OP, why do you want carbon clinchers? just weight? or do you want structural carbon? aeroness or what?
if all you care about is having a carbon braking surface/rim, buy the taiwanese zipp knockoffs as they’re cheap and reasonably aero. The bonty’s that footwerx mentioned are pretty sweet too, and the predecessor of the C2 Rim.
