ROSEVILLE, Minn. (BRAIN) — Hed Cycling is recalling about 380 rims because they can cause brake pads to wear out unexpectedly.
The company has received six reports of the rims with textured Turbine Braking Technology causing premature pad wear. No accidents were reported. The rims were made in the U.S. and sold for between $700 for an individual wheel and $2,400 for a set of wheels.
This recall involves Ardennes Black and Jet Black rims manufactured between January 1, 2016 and March 15, 2016. Serial numbers beginning with 0116, 0216 or 0316 are printed near the valve hole on the rim. The recall does not involve disc brake-specific wheels or rims.
Consumers with the rims are being told to stop using them and contact HED Cycling toll-free at 888-246-3639 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday or online at www.HedCycling.com.
I will say, those HED JET blacks stop wicked fast. Probably even faster on the recalled ones.

Separate braking disc for wut?
I actually saw a pic of one of those pairs that was returned for that issue, and to my eye it looked as if there was an undue sharp “lip” at the point on the brake track where the groove machining action had over-lapped. So, they probably didn’t stop any faster, it’s just that lip removed a slice of pad every revolution, sort of like a cheese slicer. The rider who had these said he’d wear through a set of pads in a single ride! Obviously not as designed.

Yeah in the case maybe not. I had heard about the issue but didn’t know specifics, just that they were chewing pads.
Have you guys tried these? I have a 6 and a 9 … not finding the braking particularly good at all. Worse than my aluminum Jets.
I am using Shimano DA pads, which I haven;t used before. If you have them and they stop ‘wicked fast’ what pads were you using?
I have used both Swiss stop yellows (yes meant for carbon), and Shimano black. No problems on my end
