Hi there
I am looking for a new wheelset for my Scott plasma TT. I came on the HED wheels, specially the HED Jet 9 C2 and the Jet Disc C2. I have a view questions about these wheels:
The wheels are much cheaper than comparable wheels from Zipp or similar competitors. And the weight is also less compared to similar wheels from Zipp 808 or 1080 (both clinchers). How about the quality of the HED wheels? And how about the hubs, are they durable?
The disc is made out of a “normal” wheel. The sides are glued on. Does this mean the disc can be trued? Or is it even necessary to true the disc from time to time like a normal wheel with spokes?
How about the noise of the Jet 9 and the Jet Disc? I like the sound of roaring wheels when you go out of the saddle
Do these HED wheels fit into my frame? The Scott Plasma TT has the same narrow chainstays as the old Plasma.
I hope anyone can help

I’ve got that exact combo on my P2 - there is no noise that i’ve ever noticed, yes they can be trued and yes they’re a fast a$$ wheelset. Get a set of latex tubes and a pair of Bontrager R4 aero TT tires and you’ll be set. here they are on my bike
Thats looks very nice! I try to imagine on my Scott Plasma TT
About the noise: I meant the nice noise “wuch-wuch-wuch-…” of the hollow body of the disc. This noise, the louder the better, is at least to me very motivating
That is why I asked if there is such a noise like on Zipp wheels. But this will not be the buy criteria
I have a Jet 6 C2 and Jet 9 C2 front. I also have a Jet 9 C2 rear (My disc is a Renn). All are top notch wheels. I do ride them more than just in races. I do that because I like the noise they make and the ride of the wider rim.
Road bike, TT bike it does not matter. I just like them.
All the above wheels I bought used and have had absolutely no issues with any of them. Rock solid and fast.
Might as well jump on the HED thread while its here.
Im lookng at picking up a Jet9 rear and I cant decide on the Jet9 or Jet 6 front. Im a pretty heavy rider at 200lbs so I dont think Ill get blown around too much with the deep front.
I own the jet 9 front and if I had it do over again I would buy the Hed 3 instead. Not based on handling but aerodynamics.
I weigh 155, and on the handling front I have been ok with the 90 for all of the races I have done excpet one in which the winds were not steady but were intermittently gusting at 25 mph, at 90 degree angle (out and back course, cross wind the whole way). If it had been steady, it would have been fine, but with the gusting it was too much and after warming up and getting blown straight sideways a couple of times, I put the wheel back in the trunk and used my old FP 60. At 200 lbs I think you will be fine in almost any conditions with the 90.
My problem with the 90 is not the handling but the aerodynamic profile. If you look at Hed’s site, you can simulate the wheels at all the conditions and see the drag you’re going to get. While the 90 is great in a lot of conditions, the Hed 3 appears more versatile at the speeds and conditions I actually ride. For many, many combinations of speed/wind angle deeper isn’t faster.
Call Hed and ask them for advice on this issue. Hed’s customer service is OUTSTANDING and they will take any amount of time necessary to help you make the right choice (shame on me for not calling them before I bought the 90 instead of the 3, but you can learn from my mistake).
I ride Jet9 C2s front/rear and weigh approx 144. On REALLY windy or gusty days I experience some push on the front, but my weight on the rear keeps it still, so you should be fine. When it gets really windy (15mph+) I spend less time on bars to help control the front, but it has never been a true danger.
I ride Jets9 C2s front/rear. They’re awesome. I use them for training and racing and NEVER put other wheels on my P2. She just doesn’t look right with another wheelset on her. Very durable, very strong and VERY fast.
It does make a distinctive sound but not like the whoosh whoosh you speak of. I like the whoosh-whoosh, but I prefer my Jet9s. I’ve nver noticed a problem getting the wheels past brakes on the P2 and that is fairly narrow as well.
