HED H3/H3D vs. Zipp 808 MAX/Clydesdale

If I had the means to, I’d buy them both and test for myself, and just keep them in my arsenal of race wheels. But back to reality…

I typically race at 225 lbs, and fall in the 25mph range for oly distance stuff, depending on… well, depends on the excuse I want to use.

I’m looking for an aero wheel that’s stiff, beefy, and kona legal. I really don’t care about saving grams of weight or drag. I’m 6’5. I generate plenty of both.

I have an 808 clyde in the front, and it’s a splendid wheel. I’ve read that the H3 and H3Ds are pretty much bombproof.

Opinions?

The HED 3 (and 3D) ARE bombproof and as a Clydesdale will present no issues to you at all

I’d recommend the 3D rear at the very least and f/r combo if you’re looking at a set

awesome wheels in all conditions I’ve ever ridden them in

next biggest question becomes…tubie v clincher

good luck

Yeah, I have a Zipp 808 Clydesdale up front, thinking about the H3D for the back.

And I’m a clincher man. Let’s not open that can of worms…

Anyone have an 808 rear clydesdale? Or MAX as they call them now?

I have spent lots of miles on both the hed3’s and 808’s. I had my 808’s hand built with king hubs and 28 spoke rear 2 cross.

I have never really loved my 808’s I have owned a bunch of zipp stuff and have never really been in love perhaps lust or summer love.

Hed’s totally bomb proof they only complaint I could ever have is weight.

My new passion is edge composites built around dt swiss hubs carbon clincher- according to edge they have no weight limits.

PS I race at 240 most seasons imX3 1/2IM X8 ITT crits etc.

If you are local to South NJ you are welcome to spend some time on my 808’s I don’t ride them much.

i’d favor the HED3 Deep rearover a disc - however the option to add a wheelcover to a deep rim rear wheel gives you the versatility to have a “disc”

i think you’d be hard pressed to beat the Hed3D rearthough - both from an aero and lust factor - but that’s my personal opinion

Yeah, I’m way out west. Otherwise I’d totally take you up on your offer. :frowning:
