HED Black Dog v. 3T Brezza

One sounds like a tavern on a snobby island and the other sounds like a coffee maker. Please post your opinions about which is better for tri’s. Thx!

Well, if cost is an issue then I believe the Brezza is a couple hundred cheaper (at least the lower model is).

If you want upturned arms at all blackdog is the best option. I don’t know how stiff the 3T ones are but the HED ones are insanely stiff. At least compared to my old oval concepts ones.

Sounds like HED is the winner so far.

What about these new ones from Profile Designs? The Volna. http://www.profile-design.com/products/aerobars/volna/

Depends on your position. On Blackdog pads are not very high above basebar (even with spacers). On Brezzia pads are above the extensions which are above the basebar.
So if you need height, Brezzia. If you need lowness, Blackdog.

Bingo. The blackdog is one of the lowest stack-height aerobars you can find (centerline of stem to top of pads) - 2cm. The Brezza is quite high - 5cm. Yes, you can spacer up the blackdog, but you’ll never get it as high as the Brezza. And the Brezza can’t go any lower (but can go a bit higher if needed). So it’s probably a case of one or the other. They certainly aren’t exact swaps. In either case, you might be looking at bars that are quite different from what you currently have. Do you have a need to go up? down? same?

FWIW, to the eye the Brezza looks to have a thinner profile, but is less adjustable.

when you say stiff, do you mean stiffness when you are holding the brake lever area out of the aero position? i ask because one of the complaints with the Vantage 8 was that the clamp of the clip-ons are prone to slippage on rough roads and pulling up hard on the extensions. it doesn’t appear that they have change the clamp system for the clip-ons for the Black Dog.

Yes, when you are holding them out of the aero position the stiffness is really quite remarkable. Also i forgot to mention that the brakes are spring activated so when you let go of the break it will go back into place which is nice. the oval concepts ones would sometime stick.

I have only taken them out once yesterday but i haven’t had any problems with slipping. It looks like there is a coating over the area where they bolt on which most likely is for an anti-slip measure.

I don’t know if you’ve seen this or not:

Apparently Brezza got no drop and base bar extensions that are too far forward compared to Oval.

Anybody knows what Brezza actually weighs? The 3T website states 510/630 but i also found it in online stores at 800+grams for both models. And what is the retail on those bars and does it include brake levers or not?

Is the Black Dog’s weight accurate? In the low 600s?

Ya, I noticed the weights problem, too. The only weight I trust is when TD weighed the Ventus in his shop. But it makes me nervous if they are lying about the weight, what other stuff are they lying about?

From what I have read, you have to pair the Brezza/Ventus with extensions from other companies. I know this is kind of lame, but 3T seems to have some issues with gearing these up for mass production versus championship production.

All signs have leaned me toward the black dog so far. Heck I can’t even find someone who owns a 3T. Still, the 3T look compelling even with their faults so I was hoping to find some more feedback. They are so clean that matching up extensions was still worth it to me. The reviews of the 3T ventus are thorough but are also somewhat politically correct and leave out some needed harsh criticism.

Thanks to everyone who is posting in this thread. If I can get my hands on any of these products I’ll post additional photos and my own review.
