I’m looking to build up a new set of custom road wheels, with a wider (23 mm) rim.
It seems like the C2 and R460 are very comparable except the C2 costs twice as much ($120 vs. $60).
Anyone have any experience with these rims. Any reason not to go with the R460 rims?
I have the R460’s as my training wheels. They’re awesome. The rim profile reminds me of the old Shimano R500 wheels, which were surprisingly aero. I use them as training/crit wheels. They can be run tubeless, but unlike the Hed’s tire mounting is very easy. I can’t see any reason not to get them…
…except, this may make more sense than building up a set: http://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;navigation=1;menu=1000%2C4%2C123%2C30;product=79864;page=13;dbp=113
Depressed Euro and all, you’d be hard-pressed to build up a set of training wheels for that price. This is what I’m using (the R24’s use the 460 rim). Very pleased! If you already have hubs ready to build, then rims may make sense. The rims seem to be a lot higher quality than the KinLin XC279 that I was using previously. The finish is better, and the brake tracks are wearing much better, the hooks beads are machined a lot cleaner etc.
I just witness a set of White Industries hubs being rebuilt into a 460R rim with Sapim CX Ray silver spokes. A very nice looking wheel overall.
I had a HED Belgium powertap wheelset hand built by some friends. It was very nice!!
Sold it for a crank based PM and bought a cheap set of wheels. Made me miss the great ride quality of nice wheels.
I just built up a new wheelset for the tri and Cx bike. Looked at Belgiums again as well as the DT Swiss you’re considering. They seemed like a fantastic rim for the price, but I wanted a 20/24 wheel build, and the DT only come in 24 holes or more.
I ended up using the BikeHubStore 24mm wide, 22mm deep rims. Sapim Laser spokes on Bitex hubs. Built up really nicely!! All for <$300.
Williams Cycling uses the same rims for their System 22 wheelset with CX Ray spokes. $200 more for a prebuilt wheel, but still a very nice deal.

I have both right now and would suggest looking at the pancetti sl23, its cheaper than the HED but just as nice. Overall in the end it will not make a big difference as both perform well. The HED has withstood a massive amount of wet weather/sandy braking this year and has almost no wear which is a good sign as to its durability.

Would concur, as the pacenti SL23 is on sale as they have launched a version 2 which is more similar to the HED Belgium+ in width (internal and external).
You could also look at Flo30 rims.
D.
Nothing bad to say about any of the rims mentioned, except Pacentis are tough to get tires on and off. I rode C2+'s for 5k miles, they were the best riding wheels I ever had. I got DA C24’s and put the HED’s on my wife’s bike, I want them back.

Don’t forget the Boyd Altamont.

Are any of these particularly more durable for wet weather use than the others? I have had fair luck with the Belgiums but if there is something beefier out there I’m all ears.

That’s the build I was thinking.
