HED 3 VS Xentis Mark 1

Hi,

I’m looking for a cool set of wheels to go on my S3.

I know that both are heavy.

I know crosswinds can be tricky.

I plan on putting 1,000- 1,500 yearly on whichever set I buy.

Has anyone ridden both sets?

If so your opinion is valued.

Thanks

I’ve only used the front on both HED3 and Xentis Mark1… I actually like neither but if I had to choose one I like the least it would be the Xentis Mk1… you are right both are very heavy, but my main grip is crosswinds and the xentis is worse then the HED.

Thanks for your opinion
.

I used to have the mark 1s. I don’t think they were that heavy, I believe 1700g for the set, but as mentioned, they are not that good in the cross winds in my opinion

Thanks. I am used to deeper dish carbon wheels. The older I get have a cool looking bike is fun.

I’m riding a SLC-SL (older version of the S3) and I’m an old guy too that likes the nostalgia of older cool looking wheels. I have been using the H3’s on this bike on and off for about 6 years and now I would say that they are on there for good. Put some 20 mm Conti SS tires on there and they are as fast as any other modern aero wheelset.

They are fine in cross winds. Especially if you ride them daily.

Here are a couple versions of how they have looked on my bike.

Are we talking Xentis “Mark 1” or “Mark 1 TT”?
Both are 4-spokes, but the non-TT version has thinner spokes and shallower rim.
I’ve ridden them in IM Lanzarote on an (even for Lanza) very windy day. Not too much of an issue!

now - the Mark1 TT in windy conditions? Different story…

good reminder… In my example it was the TT I used…

My corima 4 spoke is both lighter and does better in the wind… hoping to beat my times with it next year.

I have a set of each and use the H3 pair for racing and the Xentis mk1 for training. If it’s windy, then the Xentis front is excellent.

Man I love the way that looks! Before I got my used P2 I had dual h3s on my road bike w/clip-ons. I’ve since converted that bike back to a road bike and since I still have a few h3 wheelsets collecting dust, I think I’ll throw a set on that bike.

Did you seriously ride that bike with no rear brake?

Long story, but yes, and only for that ride. I had just gotten back from Colorado for a bike fit and I put the Hookers back on the bike later that evening.
