Heartrate monitor question?

Just wondering…

Who here has a heartrate monitor that can be downloaded to your computer?

If you do was it fun to do a couple of times and now you don’t bother, or do you download and analyise after ever ride/run?
I’m just considering getting a new monitor and can’t decide if I should just get a basic unit or one with download etc…

Would appreciate yor suggestion.

Every ride, every run… 5sec record rate. I usually do it daily. Otherwise, what is the use? You have to commit, though. Otherwise it is useless…

wht is the point of downloading your heartrate? just use it as a pace guide in training…

Looking at average HR relative to speed on the track for intervals.

Looking at HR response to hills/rollers (i have altimeter on my HRM)

Examining recovery rate following intervals/hills

Examining HR response at the start of intervals

Examing time spent in HR Zones.

Which one do you have?

S725i. The footpod is too heavy for me to ever run with, which is why I didn’t get the S625Xi.

Ditto. I’ve had the Polar 710i for 4 years now, and I download and review HR after every workout. Also altitude, speed, and cadence on the bike.

If price is an issue, Polar is soon rolling out it’s RS200, basically a RS200sd without the speed and distance running footpod. You can add the footpod later if you want.

The watch has a nice light casing, great clear three line display, lots of features including the new Zonelock feature which is pretty clever. The only main downside is that it only downloads to Polars online personal trainer website. I liked downloading my 625x and 720 monitors to the Polar Precision Performance software on my computer more. It’s a killer watch though. The RS200sd is out now but I don’t think the RS200 is shipping yet. Retail is $139.99 on the RS200, $219.99 on the RS200sd although that’s off the top of my head so don’t hold me too it:) It comes with the cool and comfy new Wear-Link strap too!

yep, once you start yo cant stop looking at the data, its like pringles, oooo pringles and their juicy salty crust!

I have the RS200sd and love it. The polar website download isn’t the best, but all I want is basic info and for that purpose it works fine. I picked it up for $180 at the Chicago Tri Expo.

Agreed. They come with all the bells and whistles these days, but all one really needs is the read-out and perhaps a max/min alarm and average function and that’s all you need.

I have a Polar S625X and love it. Like Rappstar, I’m compulsive about uploading my HR and speed/distance info. I am a complete data geek – I have Excel spreadsheets that use the 5 sec data to automatically tell me about my pacing, calculate my best splits at various distances intrarun, calculate trimps for each workout, etc.

Although I could go on at length abou how useful this info is, I can’t really dispute the fact that listening to your body and knowing perhaps avg HR gets you all you really need. It’s really just a personality thing. If you’re a data geek, the info is so cool that it helps make the workouts more fun. But there are plenty of people who would view the uploading/analysis as a chore, rather than a bonus. They’ll tell you they’d rather spend the extra time training.

So it all depends which type you are.

I’m looking into getting this model. Do you swim in it?

I have swum in it and it works great in open water. The only issue I have is that the wearlink transmitter slips down my chest every time I flip turn in the pool–granted my flip turns aren’t the most fluid turns in the world–but nonetheless when I tried tightening it to prevent it from slipping it had to be tightened to the point it was uncomfortable. Long story short, I haven’t been wearing it for my pool swims though its not because it doesn’t work well in the water.

Anyone else out there have this problem? Any recommendations on how to prevent this?

I concur - I have the RS200SD and love it as well. Someone finds the footpod too heavy? Right …

My Polar monitor has this capability, which I use after key workouts such as track work on the run. So no, I don’t use it after every workout. But I use an SRM on the bike and I use it for absolutely every single ride that I do. The data the SRM (or other power meters) provides adds up to a lot more information that just HR, and is thus more valuable to have every workout to paint a more detailed picture of training.

Really? I don’t even notice the footpod! I love that thing. It makes my runs so much more interesting. No more mapping my distances before a run, just snap it on my shoe and go–never rattles or moves around. And its amazingly accurate–I did a measured 12 miler last week and it registered 12.1 miles! I was amazed. Best HRM for my $.
