Heartburn..WTF

So I’ve heartburn for about 5 days now, pretty much all day. I have not had any radical changes in my diet recently, just maybe a little too much fast food this week from being on the road alot.

For the record, I have had heartburn like once in my life before, so this is really not common for me. It seems to get worse after training. At what point should I see a doctor about this, and are there any other things I should be looking at in my diet or lifestyle that I could be over looking that could have caused this to happen.

I tried some pepcid AC about 3 hours ago, with no relief so far

Thanks in advance,

Erik

GERD or also called Acid Reflux Disease…

Causes can be numerous… only tests with a physician can determine the cause.

For temporary relief, the best OTC product would be Prilosec OTC (sold in the US as an OTC). However, if this is the begginning of a more serious illness (such as esophageal cancer) using Prilosec would only mask the actual cause.

Bottomline, you need to see a doctor if this continues. If for some reason, you don’t feel that is necessary … change your diet and follow a diet that someone with ulceritist may follow. This means - no acidic foods (including - soft drinks, caffeine, sport drinks, avoid eating late in the evening and always eat breadfast).

This is very wierd. About 3 weeks ago I had heartburn for the first time in my life, lasted just over 1 week. I thought I was dying, having a heart attack, or something. I told my husband my symptoms and he laughed at me. Of course, then I really wanted to know what caused it. I have a really healthy, boring diet and eat basically the same things every day. About a week after it stopped as quickly as it started. The strange part is that several people in my office, one running friend and my hairdresser all had the same symptom and knew other who were having the same symptoms. All of us were people that rarely/never had HB before. Group consensus was that it was some type of mild virus. Give it a few more days and maybe yours will pass like ours did. Good luck. I was really annoying not knowing what was going on.

I get awful heartburn if I lie down after eating anyhting spicy, or acidic, or normal food. It’s the lying down that starts it for me.

My wife got heartburn almost everyday of her pregnancy. Probably not applicable in your case, :-), but have you had any hormonal, behavioral, or weight changes lately?

GET TO THE DOCTOR ASAP, have you considered the Cliff Bars?
