Headset / fork adapter

My bike takes a 1 1/8" integrated headset. The fork I want to use has a 1" steerer tube. What is the name of the adapter i need to buy, and where do I find one?

I believe it’s called “a new fork”.

Hahahaha, awesome. I now need a new keyboard, but it was worth it for that, whew.

That was a good one. I think Chris King make a headset or adapter cups so you can run 1" headset in 1 1/8" head tube.

I had in mind that there would be some sort of adapter rings. It hadn’t occured to me that there might be a headset designed to do exactly this.

What fork is this that you can get for 1" only? Though King has a system that would work - it is not the best idea ever.

It’s a fork I already own. I’d like to make it work with a frame I have that is designed for a 1 1/8" fork, if reasonably possible.

Odd as it sounds I don’t think it can be done. The Chris King Devolution headset I think only shims a non integrated head tube - it would be odd to say the least if they made a shim designed for use with integrated headsets given their views on them.

What you’d need is either a ‘extra thick’ integrated headset that was flush with both your headtube and steerer which I’ve never seen or a shim you could put around the steerer to increase the diameter so you could use a 1 1/8" standard headset. Again I’ve never seen a shim like that (there are lots for making stems work but not headsets) and can see problems with such a design - how would you stop the top shim falling down the steerer for example without a lip which would then interfere with the cone spacer on top of the headset.

I hope I’m wrong but that’s my $0.02. If you happen to have some 1" integrated headset lying around let me know as I am looking for some

What fork? I have a few, I will send you one…rather you be safe and ride safe (to quote Longboarder)

The frame is a 2003 QR Kilo aluminum 53 cm/650 with a 1 1/8" integrated head tube. The fork I’d like to use, if possible, is a Kestrel 650 with a 1" steerer.

I guess you’re looking for a Chris King Devolution Headset?
.

The King DeEvolution won’t work because King won’t build an integrated headset.

They explain why here: http://www.chrisking.com/tech/int_headsets_explained/int_hds_explain_1.html

I hate to break it to you: It’s not meant to be. No one makes an adapter for using a non-integrated 1" and an integrated 1 1/8". Even if you could get one machined, the adapter would likely change the height of the headtube and change the geometry. I would suggest taking a deep breath and looking into a new fork. Sorry.
