i had a lane share today with this nice lady, swam a really nice stroke and was just a pleasant lane companion. a free lane had opened up but i didn’t want to move over as they had the jets on the bottom of the pool and it kind of wobbles you when you swim
i was going to say to her, oh thanks for sharing, i didnt want to go to lane 3 as they have the jets on the bottom, but she couldn’t hear a thing i was saying
i kinda like swimming is sensory deprivation - cant see or hear shit but headphones are not my jam, cant even have a 10 seconds pleasantry with a lane mate
Oh I agree 100%; not only can you not talk to your lane mate but every single swimmer I’ve ever seen start using headphones, their swimming went to sh*t in a matter of a few months. Now they just float around and paddle leisurely rather than really working it.
Also, you’re abso right about the sensory deprivation being a key part of swimming, and the people who swim breast with their head out of the water are missing a key part of the swim experience. This is something I just thought about in the last couple of months but apparently most don’t care about this. They just don’t want to put their face in the water, and/or don’t want to get their hair wet.
