Ok, were starting to lose daylight. Any suggestions for a real good headlight. Hard to tell what is needed for roads, most reviewers seem to be MTB.
Any comments?

Go with a helmet mount AND a handlebar mount. WIth the handlebar mount only, there’s a tendency to oversteer corners to get the light where you’re going. With the helmet mount, the light shines where you’re looking, but because the light is above your eyes, the terrain loses texture (hard to see rocks and holes) because of a lack of visible shadows. The handlebar mount is more for others to see you. A broad beam handlebar mount plus a helmet mounted spot is the best way to go. NightSun or NiteRider (however they’re spelled) are the Cadillac choices – they’re best for a reason.
And guess what? The MTBers will tell you the same thing, but for different reasons. Seeing over drop-offs being a major one.
how much power do you want?
if it’s just to be seen a nice bright white LED lamp, cateye, vistalyte, or the new Princeton Tech lights are nice.
If you want to bring daylight to the night, a HID system like the Light & Motion ARC light will amaze you and blind cars but will set you back $350-$400
A good inbetween is the Light and Motion Vega, a 3watt supercharged LED light with internal rechargeable batteries, travel charger, good run time, compact design, no external battery pack and good mount. It’ll light up the road very very well, not like a HID unit but i’ll make anything under a 10w halogen unit look dim. www.bikelights.com
