I just bought one from powerbalance.net…its a trip. I tried the tests on the website on a bunch of diff people including myself, and I must say it has worked on everyone of them.
Now…I have no idea what it does other than I know I can stand on one foot better :). I guess pro surfers and athletes are starting to wear them(kobe/lebron/shaq). I do feel more energy and core strength when I wear mine, but who knows if its in my head.
I also bought one for my grandpa, and he doesn’t need to use his cane as much when he is wearing his…
I like to wear mine when my compression socks are dirty
I don’t work for them, I am not sponsored by them…just curious who else has one?
Are you saying this because you have one? If you don’t I suggest you try it first. It blew my mind. A lot of players at the NFL combine wore them also.
Ya dude I was as skeptical as you, but I am not going to lie I had my grandpa do the balance test (who had no idea what I was doing) and his balance was greatly increased. I don’t know what it does exactly or how it works, but like I said it’s a trip. If you get a chance or know someone who has it, just try it on.
Come on dude spam!? really? I am not saying go out and buy the damn thing. Just wondering if anyone else has one. I was sharing my experience with it… So… beat it!
That balance test is actually used to “prove” quite a few snake oil products. I have had salespeople use it on me for these power bracelets, special “super-oxygenated” water, and other silly products.
The test has nothing to do with the product itself. To put it simply, you catch them off guard the first time (when they don’t have the product), and then they know what’s coming the second time and subconsciously accommodate for it.
The best was when the guy selling super water did the test on my friend, and I noticed how the test worked right away. He then had me do it, and my balance was rock solid both times, because I knew exactly what he was going to do. He was confused as f***, because I didn’t react the way he expected me to. Pretty funny.
But it may give you a placebo effect, in which case continue using it if you sense an improvement.
hmmm…makes sense, but how would you explain it if I told you I had it done to me several times with the same result? Same thing with the guys on my hockey team…each tried in several times. One guy we handed a livestrong bracelet and didnt tell him, and he lost his balance.
Socalbeachbum has been on the board for a long while and is a “regular poster”, in fact he’s been here much longer than you have. So I would not be so quick to accuse him of spamming.
I don’t take it that he’s trying to sell these things here, he just made a post about them.
Then I would say you are experiencing a placebo effect. Your subconscious is convinced that it is working, so you see some actual physiological benefit.
The most telling factor for me is the fact that many companies have had essentially the same product, just with different materials. Some used titanium, others used magnets, and some just used different colored plastic beads. This one uses mylar, but has the same claims as all the others.
As I said, if you are experiencing a placebo effect (as it seems you are), then continue using it, since you will see some genuine benefit.
NFL players, are among the greatest athletes in the world
but they are not known for being smart
Are you saying this because you have one? If you don’t I suggest you try it first. It blew my mind. A lot of players at the NFL combine wore them also.
Doctor… Venkman. The purpose of science is to serve mankind. You seem to regard science as some kind of dodge… or hustle. Your theories are the worst kind of popular tripe, your methods are sloppy, and your conclusions are highly questionable! You are a poor scientist, Dr. Venkman!
Ya dude I was as skeptical as you, but I am not going to lie I had my grandpa do the balance test (who had no idea what I was doing) and his balance was greatly increased. you know something is up with the bracelet someone is putting on you
to do this test properly, use two bracelets, one PB bracelet and one other random bracelet. disguise them. label them A and B, write down which one is real.
have a 3rd party who does not know which bracelet is which conduct the test.
do a number of trials picking a bracelet at random
evaluating balance each time and writing down whether A or B was being worn
compile the results and then let the person with the key fill in which trials were with A and which with with B
Very nice with the ghost busters quote Touche Jack…Touche…
I will try that test, I got nothing better to do
I see what you are saying. I am not saying this bracelet is magic, and am not saying I have super powers while wearing it. But my balance did improve when I had it on, could it be the power of suggestion? Of course it could.
All I wanted to know is if anyone else actually had one, and if so what they thought of it. Ill give the experiment a try and report back. I did try and trick one of my friends like I said in an earlier post. I gave him a livestrong bracelet (my powerbalance bracelet is yellow), and he lost his balance during the test.
The power of suggestion has worked on me (afterall I am a triathlete) so I will continue to wear it, if anything its a cool bracelet!
I have one. Bought into it at a race expo…the test blew my mind too.
A local Chiro mentioned the tests are just applied kinesiology…who knows…
I ran a PR at the race
I have no clue if it works or not…but it is a great conversation starter and no…its not a watch haha
Being a placebo effect does not mean it has no effect. It works as long as you believe it works, just like your favorite colour for your socks, pants etc. So stop reading this thread NOW if you want to carry on your PR. Or maybe keep reading and it will convince you that you have an advantage that other are missing, in which case you will feel even stronger (or more balanced, whatever) ;-). And the great thing is that the day you have a bad race, it’s because the bracelet is worn out and has lost its power.
If you’re going to do the test anyway, you should contact the James Randi Foundation. If it turns out it works like you think, they’ll hand you a million bucks.
