Has anyone logged serious miles on the Specialized Sitero?

Upgrading to the Shiv Expert in the next few weeks, and wondering if anyone has ridden a fair amount of miles on the Sitero, which comes stock with the bike. I’ve read the majority of the reviews, which for the most part were positive, but it’s easy to have a positive experience on a saddle when you’ve only ridden it a few times. I’m currently on the Cobb Gen 2, which is comfortable enough, so it’s always an option to carry that over to my new ride.

I trained for and raced two Ironmans on the Sitero last year. Best saddle I have ever used.

Had you ever had any issues with numbness on other saddles prior to switching to the Sitero?

I have put over 1000 miles on my Sitero so far and still happy with it. I have gone through a number of different saddles due to numbness or discomfort and the Sitero has worked the best for me.

I completed an IM and longer rides on it without an issue with numbness. Still some numbness on long trainer rides but still better than any of the other saddles I have tried.

I used the Adamo Race for about three years and the Cobb V-Flow Max for a year prior to switching to the Sitero. I had numbness issues with the Adamo, not bad but it was there at times. Similarly with the Cobb. I have zero numbness issues with the Sitero. I can’t use a non-split nosed type saddle. Something like the Fizik Arione or Specialized Romin are instant pain, numbness and discomfort.

It’s funny in that the Sitero is by far the least cushioned of those saddles but easily the most comfortable.

The Sitero is meant to be used in the aero position and is a horrible saddle for sitting up and riding roadie style (hence the name Sit+Aero). It’s like sitting on a wooden plank when sitting up.

Trained and raced IMWI last year on it. Thought it was a great saddle, and a big upgrade from the stock saddle that was on my Specialized Transition prior. I’m guessing I put over 1,000 miles pretty easily and a fair amount of hours on the trainer this winter as well. Would strongly recommend it.

I definitely haven’t had the sitting up problem. I do (and probably shouldn’t do) a fair amount of time sitting up on the trainer and I have never had that problem. I do have a fairly aggressive base-bar drop, but it’s definitely not TT position like.

Reply to OP:
I’ve logged some mileage on the Sitero and like it. I was curious what my old Adamo TT would feel like after riding the Sitero for 5 months, so I tossed it on for an hour trainer ride the other day. Ouch is all I have to say, I forgot how wide that thing is. Love the balance of the Sitero between narrow width while still having a cutout. I have not had any problem up to a 4 hour trainer ride. No saddle is every going to be perfect, but for now this seems to be as good as it gets.

Jack,
I do all my trainer riding on my road bike w/Cobb V-Flow Max. I do just about all my outdoor riding on my tri bike with the Sitero and 90% in the aero position so maybe I’m not used to sitting up with the Sitero. That stated, I did IMC-Whistler on the Sitero and there was a fair amount of sitting up while climbing the hills on the course and I don’t recall my taint screaming at me so maybe my comment was a little misplaced on second thought.

I agree with your statement that no saddle is going to be perfect but the Sitero is as close to perfection as I have seen so far.

That would definitely make sense. Any saddle is going to have a break-in/adaptation period. My one complain on the Sitero is that the cutout is just slightly too shallow. Would love to have it about 5mm deeper.

I find almost the exact opposite. For long trainer rides the Sitero just kills me after about 2 hours, while I can ride my old ISM-Road for 4-5hrs. On the road in Aero, the Sitero is just comfortable all day though.

I hate to mention this in another thread but just an FYI there are out of stock on the Experts till Mid March. I ordered mine Thanksgiving weekend and it keeps getting pushed back every time I check on it.

I used one for several months last year and finally went back to my Cobb. For me, it ranked among the worst saddles I’ve ever used. To say it rubbed me the wrong way would be a serious understatement. But that’s just me – your results will vary.

too stiff for me coming from adamo saddle. but it works fine now just getting used to it =)

Any ladies out there using this saddle?

My wife gets her Shiv this weekend and was curious as to how she would go with the Sitero. I’ve heard mostly positive reviews but they all seem to be coming from males at the moment.

The current IM 70.3 Women’s World Champ is on a Shiv with Sitero though…

She’s built slightly differently to my wife

Trained and raced majority of last summer on a Sitero. Its a good saddle but I have since went back to my Adamo Racing model. The Sitero isn’t quite as comfy for me on long rides, almost but not quite.

I have had a Sitero for testing for a while and is really satisfied with it. I had been on a Prologo Tri40 for two years (after two years on Fizik Arione) which was quit comfortable but caused numbness after a while and made me change my riding position after about 3 hours due to the pain.

The Sitero seat felt very hard at first and the truth is that it never gets very comfortable. But it do not get really uncomfortable either, no matter how long the ride is. I have used it for my longest ride which was 9 hours effective riding time and it worked perfectly for me.

Had my first ride on my Sitaero yesterday. Felt ok in aero, a little stiff, but ok. But sitting up wasnt too happy. Sit bones a little sore today. Did you have a break in period for the sitting up position? Or does it never get comfy in that position? Anyone have any thoughts on this? I guess if it never does, then it probably isnt the best saddle if you are climbing much on your TT bike.
