I had shoulder surgery to relieve a compressed suprascapular nerve (shoulder) in January. The surgery was because the nerve was compressed and not firing… now it is firing so much it causes myofascial trigger points (knots).
I had injections with dexamethasone, which helped, but am considering botox - which would paralyze the knots for a bit and let me build more strength through the rest of the muscle. IT would, ironically, sort of do the opposite of what the surgery aimed at doing.
There isn’t a lot of research about this. I’ve been doing PT for months and that is helping, but the knots then shut stuff down.
Injections would be in the infraspinatus and teres muscle.
Has anyone had botox injections for myofascial knots? What was your experience? Please share all the details.
Thank you.

Hello- sorry you are going through this:(. I receive Botox injections for focal dystonia in my right leg. Right now, my posterior tib is completely paralyzed to stop the dystonic movement. But…… I don’t have a posterior tib:), which causes other problems. Doc assures me that this is temporary, So, I am not a doctor, but usually the effects of Botox last about three months, at least in my case, so theoretically, even if it doesn’t help, in three months you would be no worse off. Would ask your doc about that……what’s the downside long term. Good luck, and keep on doing what you can.
thank you for the response! Is this the first time you’ve had the botox?
Is this the dystonia Kara Goucher talks about or something else?
PM me anytime and bitch about sport limitations, ok? I get it and I’ll write back and I hear you on the misery.
my love,
TC
