I am in the US, I have been waiting for a long time to buy a Speedmax. I am not hating on the company for the lack of supply, I understand there are big things going on in the world that impact supply chains. I know a lot of people are in my same position and was just wondering if anyone has gone another route and been happy with their decision? I have been looking more at getting a Cervelo but for the price I feel like the Canyon just has so much more to offer (even though I do love Cervelo, I have owned two P3’s and they were excellent bikes). Honestly at this point I do not think I will ever get my hands on a Canyon.
Has anyone found some sort of workaround to get one? I was thinking about ordering one from the Canadian website and have it delivered to a friend possibly.
Lastly, are my expectations honestly too high for this bike? Is it worth the wait and the hassle? Or is not being able to obtain one giving me unrealistic expectations?
Funny. I wasn’t seriously looking for a bike but was sniffing around a bit and Canyon was like the only one who had anything available. And they didn’t have much.
Someone I know just did and went with a QR. Canyon’s USA allocation is odd when they have bikes available for Canada and can’t seem to stock a Swim/Canyon/Run T-Shirt.
After months of pushed “coming soon†they did just drop a bunch of CF8’s last week but they’re probably gone by now.
Do you have your heart set on getting a brand new bike?
I’m in the UK so it may be different in the US, but Speedmaxes seem to come up more frequently than any other bike on various facebook triathlon buy and sell forums I’m in, a lot of them with very minimal use.
Seems to be a common occurance over the last couple of years that people splashed a load of cash on a fancy bike, did one 70.3, then got injured/had a kid/decided they didn’t actually like triathlon and are now selling.
It’s funny you should say that about the Tshirt. My wife tried to get me one as a joke because I can’t get my hands on a bike. And now the joke is that I can’t even get a Tshirt as a joke about not being able to get a bike.
I would honestly prefer a used bike but sadly no used Canyons here in the US. I would love to pounce on a deal where someone spent too much on a bike they no longer want and now just want to get rid of it!
Are you relying on the notification tool? or checking the site obsessively? The notification tool has not been very reliable lately.
I was able to get 2 Grail CFs spring 2021 when they were perpetually out of stock (still haven’t received a notification about them being in stock). I bought them a month apart by checking a few times a day, both popped up late (10:00pm and 11:30pm, central) on Friday night and were sold out by the time I woke up the next day. I bought my Speedmax back in 2018, so the market was very different; but, It also popped up around 10pm.
I do look occasionally but never get email notifications of new stock. It says the bike I want will not be available until winters, are you saying New bikes may pop up before then if I keep looking or is the projected time of availability seem accurate to you?
Both of the bikes I purchased last year popped up 2-3 months before the date Canyon had listed. I believe both were listed as July and I purchased in April/May.
My suggestion would be to check a few times a day (early and late). They may have changed things and this could be futile; but, it only takes a few seconds.
If your on Facebook, there is a Speedmax owners group and people will often share there when the Speedmax pops up. It’s a global group, so it’s not always the US, though.
I gave up. Couldn’t get the CFR in Canada for a long time now with the delivery date constantly getting pushed out so I went with a new Speed Concept instead.
I don’t understand your comment about Canyon “having so much more to offer”? What does Canyon have that makes it so much better than any of the other “super bikes”?
Hey sorry I should have been more specific. Personally for my own needs a canyon speedmax CF 7 etap is just more enticing than a p series Ultegra di2 which costs 800 dollars more. Poor choice of words in my part all are great bikes.
So I gave up on Canyon in the US and just ordered a QR X-PR. I did for quite a few reasons, one of which I absolutely love the new QR and I appreciate that they are an American company with distribution, assembly and a parts warehouse in the US
The availability on this bike has been non-existent since it was released.
It appears Canyon does not take the US market seriously and I’m afraid if I have any issues I won’t be able to get it replaced.
I love the bike and all the integration. With all the proprietary parts if there’s any issue with any of them I don’t have confidence Canyon will be able to get parts to me.
Although I have no personal experience I’m hearing negative reviews on the internal bladder system which is a huge selling point.
At this point I’m also a little bit bitter because I’ve been holding off for so long I’ve missed out on a couple races and had to do a couple others on my road bike. Last year the new Canyon had release dates on the website. Every time we got close it got bumped back a couple weeks. This went on for months until finally it just says coming soon.
Other parts of the world seem to be receiving this bike. I don’t feel they can honestly claim supply chain issues anymore.
So I’m sorry to speak negatively of a company that seems to be trying so hard to promote triathlon but I just don’t have confidence in them in the US market right now.
My training buddy cancelled on a Canyon earlier this year after his order got shunted back 2 or 3 times after originally placing it. The delivery just kept getting pushed back and back and back (this was for a new Endurace road bike rather than a Tri bike).
It’s was going to be about another 4-6 months, from memory (on top of the earlier delays). And of course no guarantees that wasn’t the last delay.
After lots of window shopping in the 2nd half of last year for a new tri bike myself, I eventually sacked it off as not happening, and got myself lovely hand built in Scotland gravel bike with mostly all UK or German parts (+ an Italian made saddle), ready for the coming apocalypse.
i think it was pretty well baked in, early in the year, that july or august was going to be speedmax delivery time in the U.S. didn’t canyon communicate that to folks here?
i get an email several times a week of what has arrived in the U.S. earlier this week the grizl came into stock. last week aeroad CFR. 2 weeks ago grail, grizl and aeroad, ultimate, endurace and several MTB models.
it seems to me june is the month things kind of broke loose, but not yet on speedmaxes. i’ll ping the powers to see if we’re still on for august or earlier and report back.
You are luckier than me! Maybe it’s the size I am looking for? I’m 6’2". You are in the US?
Maybe that’s it, maybe they’re just sold out of all the regular sizes. I’m a 2XL and of the few bikes they make in that size, seems like they had a few in stock. Maybe not, didn’t look hard but it seems like Canyon had a few. I could be wrong.
There’s probably some small annoyance in their parts supply chain that is blocking it.
For example, I recently took delivery of a Canyon MTB, but when I first ordered (March) it was scheduled for June delivery. Then it got bumped out to September. Simultaneously I noticed they respecced the crankset on that model. And some of their sizes of that model are out to January.
I ended up cancelling the order and getting the next model up, which was delivered in about 2 weeks. The only spec change I can notice (photos vs list) is the brake rotors.
(Now I’m just waiting to get over a cold so I can go ride it more than once…)
Availability of Canyon bikes here in Europe isn’t even good. Everything’s constantly sold out.
The new Speedmax is probably one of the most desired bikes out there it seems.
I am one of the lucky few that got one though. It’s an awesome bike, not gonna lie
