The wife gave me the “OK” to buy a treadmill. She didn’t mention a budget so I’m just assuming there isn’t one ;).
Right now I’m looking at a Woodway Path or a Woodway Desmo.
The key differences being the length and top speed.
Path: 5:27/mile pace and 52" belt length
Desmo: 4:48/mile pace and 68" belt length
I am 6’6, but I don’t know if the belt length really matters based on height. I think that’s just a marketing thing. If you’re running, you should be in one place. If your cadence is where it’s supposed to be, my stride length would be the same as someone who’s 5’5 at the same speed.
So my question is, does anyone here have experience with used woodway treadmills? They seem hard to find. I think I’d like the path more. We’re going to put it in the garage for now so the size doesn’t matter too much.
I’m slightly tempted to buy it new and tell the wife it’s a business expense and just own this one for the rest of our lives.
My thoughts: hiding stuff from your wife and openly talking about it on a public forum, while using your real name is a sure way to get people making snide comments.

It’s just a joke man :). She knows I’m looking at Woodways and knows the price. She prefers treadmills and runs on them every day. It’s either a used woodway at around $3,500 or a “good” costco one at like $2000. We’re willing to buy quality because my wife uses it a ton and I’d like to make a business out of treadmill software.
We also have a new baby coming in 4 weeks and have a 2 year old. The flexibility of a treadmill really helps.
And lastly, a women was raped last month on a jogging trail that my wife uses a lot.
All of that together means spending a bit more money on a quality treadmill that we want to use isn’t a big deal at all.

We bought a refurbished treadmill directly from Woodway. Best treadmill I’ve ever run on, but the actual process of getting the treadmill delivered was a super pain in the @$$.

A treadmill that tops out at 5:27 is clearly a piece of crap!

Any woodway treadmill is going to be fantastic. My college gym had 10 or 15 of them and they were the best treadmills I ever ran on…
Get the woodway. Had not tried one before we bought ours and now am wishing we had. Have not tried the different models but I would go with the larger one if you are planning on doing speed work, since the added weight might make it feel more stable at high speeds. The belt system on the Woodways is money. And let’s face it… you deserve it.
Looks awesome. I’d love to have a nice one like that. We had a lower end (non-woodway) and it was horrible. Only good for my little wife to walk and jog on but wasn’t built for serious training. It is definitely worth the extra money to have something you know is going to work long-term if you can afford it.
A larger running area is a lot better. It allows you to not worry too much about ‘drifting about’. Far more relaxing.
If 5 min/mile could ever be relaxing

That’s the only part I’m worried about. The smaller Path would fit perfectly in my office though.
I really want someone who’s used a path or a belt that size to say it’s not a big deal.
I guess I could go to a local gym store and run on a treadmill with similar belt dimensions.
Get the Woodway Desmo. Don’t worry about the belt length. They look short but it is absolutely no problem at fast speeds. In general, Woodway’s are bulletproof, top of the line and you should have no problems with it. THe tread deck is heavenly on your feet, just firm enough to feel solid and cushy enough so you don’t feel like your beating the crap out of yourself. Lifetime Fitness used to have a bunch of them and I loved them, then they replaced all of them with their LifeFitness brand. I picked up a used one a few months ago and am excited to get it going this winter.
FYI, there’s a Woodway on the International Space Station. Obviously modified - the guts are there such as the motor and tread, but it’s integrated into a rack which tries to isolate the forces from the rest of ISS. It has 1500-2000 hours (can’t remember how many hours exactly even though I just had a meeting about the non-Woodway isolators earlier this week) on it since 2009 without a hitch. You’ll see plenty of news about it on Woodway’s website.

Do you mean the path? That’s the shorter one. The Desmo one is pretty long.
Ok, maybe I’m confused. I thought Desmo was pretty short, compared to a standard treadmill I guess. So not knowing how short a Path is, I can only say the Desmo is pretty adequate for running, even fast interval speeds.
