Happy Gilmore 2 (REVIEW)

Sparing Slowguy the time and effort.

It stinks.

Just watched the trailer after they hyped it last night during game 1 Stanley Cup. Saw enough.

Maybe. Seems like it’ll be fun enough to just sit back for 90 minutes and have a couple laughs, not expecting it to be an Oscar winner- its Happy Gilmore

Only on Netflix? Yeah it will be bad. I’ll waste some of my life on it for the laughs.

I don’t think anyone is surprised by this review.

The original was a childhood favourite of mine. I’m not sure I want to sully the memory of it by watching the sequel.

It doesn’t really work that way. I loved Arrested Development (first three seasons). Then it went away.

Then they brought it back. I watched a few episodes from season 4. It was awful.

It hasn’t changed how I feel about seasons 1-3. I will still watch an episode from time to time.

Came out today. I’m going to watch it in a few.

I’m home with a flu today. Even with nothing to do but lay on the couch and watch Netflix I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

I just watched it. It’s what you’d expect. A few funny moments but certainly not a cinematic masterpiece.

I’m shocked, and so disappointed…
I was expecting a masterpiece like “Gandhi,” “Ben Hur,” or maybe even “Caddyshack”.

Worth the watch just for the cameos. Nicholas and Daly crushed it. The rest is meh as I expected.

I watched it, was terrible as expected. Just as bad or worse than his last 10 or so movies.

Hustle and Uncut Gems were REALLY good

You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah was fun if you like Never Have I Ever or The Summer I Turned Pretty sort of thing

The two Murder Mystery’s were just as good as Knives Out, plus the Adam Sandler/Jennifer Aniston vibe

You mean Travis Kelce isn’t going to win an Oscar? :joy:

Hustle was damn good!

Yeah, the cameos were by far the best part. Yeah, the original is slap stick and beyond silly, but this took it was too far. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pretty disappointed. I got like four chuckles, mostly from callbacks to the first movie.

I’m no professional movie reviewer, but if there’s one thing I know, it’s Happy Gilmore.

The first one came out the year after I graduated high school, so was a fun movie in college. But, in '01 I started working a 3rd shift job, and my go-to watch in the mornings to fall asleep was Happy Gilmore. I have probably seen it 40 times or so; it’s probably seen me 200 hundred.

My favorite memory of it was one night I wasn’t feeling well so went to bed early, and Honey - in her infinite loving ways - came to bed as well, but asked to put on a movie.

I named that movie in the first note.

All this to say, I know and understand the Happy Gilmore universe extremely well. Would any sequel compare to the original? Of course not - don’t be stupid.

But this, this was a loving call-back. If you were truly a fan of the first, than it brings everyone back that you would want to see, with remembrances to those that passed in the years preceding.

Is it laugh-out-loud funny? Absolutely… just not from start to finish, but it has it’s moments. And they are more often than not.

It is, however, a fun film that can make you get you feels on if it came out at a certain time in your life. Does that make me a bit overly nostalgic? Absolutely. But that doesn’t mean the film sucks - it doesn’t; it’s actually quite Ok.

Quite frankly, nowadays, I prefer ‘quite Ok’, especially when it’s fun, like HG2 was. If you can’t have fun and enjoy this movie on a Saturday date night, well… that says more about your relationship than it does about this movie.

Lighten up, Francis, and enjoy some good ol’ stupid comedy fun!

I was expecting it to be terrible. It was better than expected. Mostly I just wanted to laugh and I did. My 13 year old liked it. He’s seen the first one as well.

this is great and thanks for confessing to watching the same damn thing hundreds of times to fall asleep. There’s one goofy Brit sitcom my needle is stuck on, so many details you miss with only one viewing.

on the flip side I finally finished Severence and it’s a masterpiece. That one will get multiple viewings for the same reason.

sorry for the derail from the main topic

I want to see Hustle but could not get through Uncut Gems. It was so schizophrenic with the odd techie/video game music, and while I like a good F-bomb, I was wondering if they were trying to set the movie record.

I do like Sandler, don’t have Netflix, but it sounds like much might not be missed.

Played golf yesterday, Dads and Dudes. My buddies who saw it said predictable and fun. Great cameos.

The boys liked it, including Scottie getting arrested. That’s funny.
