Happy Cheeseburger Day

Specials running today at the usual burger joints as well as some upscale restaurants…

Outstanding! Not that I need a reason to eat cheeseburger, ever, but this pretty much helped decided what I want to do for lunch today. Now my question is where.

For those in the Denver metro area, my son and I recently stumbled on one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, Bob’s Atomic Burger in Golden. It’s a little hole in a wall place (always the best places are), right across the street from the Coors Brewery. Too far for lunch today unfortunately.

Bob’s Atomic Burger is great … especially in the age of mediocre $15 burgers. It’s a fun place to eat after mountain biking.

Wife and I took the grandkids hiking up Clear Creek Canyon on Sunday. After, we checked out the Golden Mill … talk about expensive and over rated. We should have gone to Bob’s. It would have been half the price with food twice as good.

I might have a McDouble.

I don’t go buy them anymore but I think for today I might make myself a really good one at home.

Golden Mill I think is more acclaimed because of the atmosphere than the prices.

And the food, which was fine. We spent $130 for 2 cheeseburgers, 3 sushi rolls, one plate of dumplings, and 4 ice cream cones.

The cheeseburgers were ok, nothing special. The sushi was maybe a notch better than King Soopers, the dumplings seemed amazing (at least according to my 6 year old granddaughter who’s never eaten a dumpling she didn’t love). the ice cream was totally fine, although they plopped the scoop onto the top of the cone and didn’t mash it down into the cone of the cone.

The atmosphere was pretty good, crowded. To be expected with the Broncos playing.

We did a work function at The Golden Mill a couple years ago. I was impressed with the tap wall. I don’t remember the food being overly impressive, it was OK but not enough to make me go back.
