I use Perpetum and follow how to use the product from the website, for a 4-5 hour ride for my weight. If i was to go out for a 4 hour bike ride i would use 10 scoops (4x2.5) for a 24oz bottle. This seems way to much, #1 it tastes like shit
#2 makes my stomach all weird on the run, sometime i feel i got to throw up…
does anyone use this product and how are you using it. Oh i weight about 195 or so
Can’t help you with Perpetuem but I can tell you that HEED tastes like crap as well, bad enough to make me less likely to drink on the bike or run, therefore a bad product. Say what you want about Gatorade, at least it tastes good.

From their website:
" For example, let’s say the athlete has determined through testing that two scoops of Perpetuem per hour is their ideal caloric intake and they need a 6-hour fuel supply for the bike portion of a full iron-distance event. All energy requirements for the bike portion can be fulfilled in just two bottles simply by mixing six scoops of Perpetuem with water in each bottle. "
Notice the part about two bottles. Perhaps they realize that, when mixed too strong, it tastes like shit and makes your stomach act up. Try mixing it at 5 scoops per bottle and make sure you consume enough plain water along with it.
I got a full container in the garage. Tastes like baby puke. Trying to figure out how to dispose of it safely.
you can send it to me… i like the stuff, i am just trying to figure a way to make it work for me
You are putting all 10 scoops into 1 bottle? That will work, but you need to make sure you can chase it with sufficient water. For training, I bring 2 bottles with 2 - 2.5 scoops in each, and carry a ziplock bag with 4 - 5 more scoops to mix out on the road.
Your stomach problems probably stem from having to high a carbohydrate concentration.
I used Pertetuem at the Boston Marathon this year. I had about 4 scoops crammed into a gel flask. I would take a small hit of the flask, and chase it with water at the water stations.
I use both Perpetuem and Sustained Energy and have found that about 6 scoops in a 24 ounce bottle are about as much as I can take. For me, I like the tastes of this mixture better than weaker concentrations.I typically will mix two bottled for longer rides and freeze one or both of then depending on the outside tempature.
I too hated the way Perpetum tasted and it also gave me an upset stomach. Realized that I wasn’t going to drink as much since I didn’t like the taste so I ditched it.
I did try some different concentrations and lo and behold, still tastes like the same shit only either watery shit or slimy shit. It just has to taste good for me to make sure I drink enough.
I’ve been using the stuff mixed at 2 scoops per hour ( I weight 165). For a recent race I mixed up one small bottle with eight scoops in it and just took a slug every 20 minutes or so, alternating with water to chase it. It never does taste good but it seems to work for me really well as long as I stick to small sips of the concentrate washed down with lots of water.I also find it tastes better the stronger you mix it you just have to nurse the bottle a bit more.
Maybe your system just doesn’t like the stuff. Accelerade makes me feel like shit right from the first slug.
Like others here, I use Perpetuem, as well as Sustained Energy (tasteless, like spackle), but not at the concentrations you used. I weigh 168 and use 2.5 scoops per 24 oz. bottle and so far I haven’t had any stomach problems. Other benefit is that at that ratio, you are drinking it, not nursing it, so you hydrate better. I consume about a bottle an hour.
I have had good luck with Hammer Products, I mix 2 scoops of Sustained and 1 Scoop of Perpetuem in one bottle per hour and have another with just plain water…
For longer events just just add more, and nursing it with lots of water…
I have both Perpetuem and Sustained energy and yes, with just water they taste like dog crap… what I have been doing is mixing a little Crystal Lite in to give it some flavor… seems to be more tolerable.
I also can’t go over about 4 scoops per bottle, so on longer rides I just have to keep more bottles filled with the mix, and either stop for water refills, or strap on the Camelback.
I had the same exact problem with pukepetuem - twice. I have since tossed all of my Hammer stuff except endurolytes. Now I am just on Cytomax, Gu, water and enduros and they are working really, really well for me.
I use a mixture of 3 scoops perpeteum, 2 scoops Cytomax orange flavor, and 3 scoops carbo-pro. Tastes fine, the cytomax really kills the perpeteum flavor. I tried perpeteum alone and it tastes like crap.
