Hamilton Statement . . . 4/18

Posted on his website today, explaining his position and arguments at his hearing. No decision announced, but seems to suggest a decision against him.

I just don’t buy it. Too convoluted. Too complicated.

I’m waiting for the nanobots and alien warp technology.

That’s for Armstrong when he gets caught.

By the way, congrats on your AZ race Marty, and your Kona spot. Nice training work considering your other commitments.

what is so complicated about it?

I assume you’re being sarcastic. If not, read his statement and check back.

“My case is a very complicated one. I could write on and on about the issues we raised, the personal toll all this has had on me, my family and my sponsors and why I think the anti-doping process could be improved. In the days ahead I’ll share more.”

Actually i’m not. The case itself is a complicated one, involving a lot of scientific mumbo jumbo that none of us understand. What Tyler writes about is not that complicated, however. The fact that the testing protocol was never released by the UCI and subjected to an impartial peer review is a major flaw. WADA has a vested interest in catching as many “cheaters” as possible, that way they can say look at all the cheaters we are catching and request more funding. Not necessarily the case here, but I think there is that bias.

Hamilton’s article sounds to me like someone who either:

a) was guilty and is trying to make up excuses

b) was not guilty and honestly does not know why he tested positive.

I do not know the truth. None of us do except for Tyler. It is up to the judiciary to determine where they think the truth lies. I think that we (as cycling fans) should leave it at that.

What if he was doping with his own blood and somehow got his and Santi Perez’s bags of blood mixed up?

Thanks Tim, pulled off a good one out there. Did a bike ride yesterday at about 12mph. Still a little tired!

If they are both the same blood type then they would stay healthy and get busted for doping… so the question is are they the same blood type?

"Hamilton’s article sounds to me like someone who either:

Those are pretty much the only two reasonable explanations. I choose A. The judiciary committee will determine what it can prove and act on such. The truth may be something entirely different and something about which we can only speculate (as I am doing here).

Maybe I’m being a wuss, but I’ll reserve my opinion until the dust finally settles.

So you qualifyed Marty, CONGRATS! Hope to see you in Kona

<First we had foreign blood in his system from a blood transfusion during surgery, then we had Chimera and now we have the “extortionist.” >

The transfusion quote was never attributed to him, it was from the first day and from an unattributed Phonak source. The extortionist has been mentioned a number of times before today.

I’m not sure I understand the first part of your statement - if they were mismatched for the ABO/Rh antigens there could be some serious problems with transfusion. If they were matched for the major antigens but different for one or more on the minor antigens they could stay healthy but might still get busted by the new test.

Correct… if they were matched on the major antigens then they wouldn’t have any health problems BUT they would have two different populations of RBCs AND the new test would catch them. It has been suggested that perhaps Perez and TH got the blood bags mixed up. If they are the same blood type then this story gets interesting.

Here’s my statement:

MEGO: My Eyes Glazed Over.

At this point it’s either affirmative or negative.

Best,

Robert
