Half Ironman training plans

Does anyone know of any good training plans for a 70.3? I have Eagleman coming up in June and I would like to choose a plan. I don’t feel like paying a coach for a custom plane. I would rather tweak an existing plan. The only ones I know of are Tri-newbies and Gale Bearnhardt.

Any other good plan?

All you have to do is set up a compu trainer and treadmill in a sauna. That should be about right. Tim

Matt Fitzgerald puts out a fabulous book with 40 different plans .
It’s phenomenal.
Google it. You can find it at Amazon.

I just did my first recently
some tips:

if the swim is wetsuit legal, don’t sweat it, no problemo.

the bike - if you think your position is comfy, make sure you test it on a long ride, after a long swim, at least once…i was wrong!

the run - if you are running 35ish miles a week and can do a 15 mile standalone run no problem, you will make the run no problemo.

There is an article in Triathlete from last year(the issue with Greg and Laura Bennett on the cover) that is great. It is a really good base plan that you can tweak to your liking.

I’ve read about how bad the heat and humidity was the past few years at Eagleman. Bring it on…

I have done a few sprint and one olympic distance in the past. And I just finished the NY marathon 2 weeks ago, so I have a decent base right now. I just want to build up my cycling and swimming.

Long run 1x a week.
Long ride 1-2x a week.
Threshold swim intervals a couple times a week.

Fill in shorter workouts around those.

Matt Fitzgerald’s book is call “Essential Week-by-Week Training Guide” and it is put out by Triathlete Magazine. Available everywhere for around $20. I used it for my first 1/2 IM this year, and was very pleased. There are 10 different levels of training difficulty for the 4 distances (sprint, Oly, 1/2 IM and IM). I chose level 4 for 1/2IM and blended it with level 5. It is a very comprehensive plan, and I posted 5:20 on a pretty difficult course. That was my first, and it really prepared me well. The 1/2 IM’s are 20 week plans, so get out your calendar. I doing IM Coeur d’Alene and plan on using the 24 week plan.

Endurance Nation offers some great HIM plans.
