Unfortunatly I am not too familiar with that course, but I would say that the loop that is ridden two times had one sizeable hill on it, that is maybe 1/2 mile long and other than that there are “rolling hills” that are not too bad. The RUN though, is half on the trails at the park there and has sandy footing and hills as well. Again, nothing that is impossible, but it isn’t a flat course either. However, the next few weeks of my training are going to be happening on these trails and roads to get myself ready for it!! Good luck and let me know if there are any other questions!
Do you know anything about the swim?
Did 1/2max last year great race very well run very tough run understand they have changed the course for this year. another race you may consider which has a tougher bike which may help lk placid is Buffalo Springs Lake Tri in Lubbock Tx. Look at the bike profile on the website there are 8 tough climbs and 3 on the run. The bike looks flat otherwise but has slight grades and wind is usually a factor there is also BEER at the end. If your flying to St Louis Lubbock isn’t that much farther.
the swim is a lake swim- no current- done in waves with the women going last
.
Has anyone done both the Tinman and the Half Max? Which is a better race?
The Tinman is closer for me, but I don’t want to start the race by swimming in a slough without a wetsuit.
I have heard that lubbock was hard to fly to and drive to… Has anyone done effingham ? Logistically, I think that is a 250 miles drive, it might work. Halfmax and tinman require flying to, I need to look into that. Like Caleb, I’d like a bit more feedback on both races. You guys said the run is hilly in St-Louis but how is the bike? But trigirl, you have me considering baraboo now. i will look it up today. Decisions, decisions…
Hey Marisol…I guess you have your race wheels by now…how goes the downhill training?
1/2 bike course has been changed from last year… I would say it’s rolling hills, no major climbs, good roads, the hills are in the beginning and end when you are leaving and re-entering the resort… but it all depends on points of reference though… the run is tough, great calm lake swim to begin… not a PR course but fun, and a great atmosphere
Hey, I really like my zipps. Back tire blew in transition area first time I used them but race director took care of it thank god! Downhill training has it’s ups and downs, I’d say 75% better… I am going to Lake Placid june 4-6 for camp, that’s the eal test fro those hills!
Do you know anything about the swim?
I just registered for the Tinman today. I’ve been planning on doing a race that weekend for a long time, I was just unsure which one.
The major deciding factor was distance; Wisconsin is an easy day’s drive, but Missouri is pushin it.
I don’t know anything about the swim. All I know is that if the water is 80 and I come out with leaches or other swamp creatures sticking to me I’m not going to be a happy camper.
Come join us in at the Wisconsin Dells, should be fun.
Caleb
The Il race is a new one I believe. I did 1/2 max last year as an LP prep. Organization was good, although be on the lookout for the speed bumps in Innsbrook proper…I got airborne once. Nice socks in the goodie bag, heavy duty finishers medal, food was good and they had beer as I recall(?). If they keep the same run course you’ll think the LP run is a breeze. They’re raising $$$ for the eye bank so part of your entry will be deductible.
Well thanks for all your help, I signed up for Effingham today. Decided that the logistics of getting there were the best. Hope I made the good choice:)
