Narrowed down to Chrono and Ottrott. 6’1", 180 pds, 33" inseam, 70" full reach…very athletic but bad neck (c6-c7)…
Would you go with Chrono or Ottrott (with a tri-geometry)…but not real steep/ aggressive?

apples & oranges
.
I ride a crono and a Nove
the crono is not as comfortable as the serotta- I have done an IM on both.
I love my serotta–everything about it–every last detail.
I really like the way the my crono looks and feels.
I try to use car analogies:
crono is a full race car 200 degrees no padding no radio just full on go, doing 160 mph
the serotta is an mercedes doing 160 mph listening to music with the seat warmers on.
I say ottrott
K
Care to elaborate…?
Each are custom…I’d get the Ottrott in tri-greometry…or the Chrono in a less aggressive geometry…
Thanks! I’ve read your car analogy before…love it! Yes, I’m leaning towards the Ottrott…curious, why did you get the Nove instead of the Ottrott?
If you’re big with a bad neck, I say go with the Serotta. One of my bikes is a custom Serotta and it rides like a dream.
I think the sizing is more important - both can build for your geomotry.
Regarding your neck issue - that is more to do with you than with the bike fit. You get fit for how you want to ride - how can any bike manufacturer build something that will work with you in the beginning of a long race and then also work with you when your neck hurts.
Also, if you go with the Guru, be sure to get fit with their new bike fit device - much better than being measured. it’s called the Dynmic Fit Unit. It’s a test bike that can be fitted to you and the measurements are recorded electronically and then submitted to the factory.
Most of the descriptions from people here are purely subjective. The race car analogy has no substance. If anything the Chrono would be smoother since it’s all carbon, not a mix of carbon and titanium.
Having ridden a Guru, I’d give it the thumbs up. But since you can test ride bikes, there is no reason to come here to ask for a final decision.
How did you narrow it to these two in the first place?
Good points…So hard to narrow down from so many great bikes…seems like one can’t go wrong with Serotta…may be expensive but at least I know I’m getting the best money can buy…so hopefully no “buyer’s remorse” after the fact. And, I need to do the best thing to give my neck a fighting chance yet still be somewhat competitive…
I know many guys (all roadies) who have Serottas and swear by them…
Bottom line: make the best educated “guess” possible…as i need to get through this “analysis paralysis”… ![]()
Learn,
“Having ridden a Guru”
I own both a Crono and a nove— next model down from a ottrott.
I feel like I am in a position to offer a subjective opinion based on having several thousand miles on each model.
the race car analogy is based on the substance of riding each bike for the aformentioned several thousand miles.

<the serotta is an mercedes doing 160 mph listening to music with the seat warmers on. >
Super Clyde posted this on my “Serrotta” thread I posted earlier this summer, and his decription is spot on.
I own the CX II and I couldnt be happier.
Very smooth ride, and fast as well.
If you live in the NYC area,I would highly recommend, going to see Paul Levine from Serrotta for a bike fitting.
Go with the Ottrott!
How many pros or competitive age groupers do you see ride a Serotta in triathlons? Also, how many pros or competitive age groupers do you see ride a bike without aero shaped tubes in triathlons? I think the answer is slim to none.
Go with the Guru!
no doubt you are correct - for yourself. but for our friend here…
and are you really right about yourself even? got any tt or power meter data?
for our friend - he should test ride close approx fits of both, then look at budgt and see how he could put the savings into a set of racewheels or whatever.
maybe we can agree to go with campy?
gigs,
Have you ever seen aero data on the crono???
I know we data on stuff like p3’s at 25+ mph but how about at speeds like normal people travel 21 or 22 mph??
Let me set the record-I like my crono alot- it is sexy looking, fun etc.
I do not know if the crono is actually aero. and after that I do not know if aero makes any bit of difference at 20 mph.

This is what is great about an open communication forum such as ST…you get everyone’s opinion and one is able to make the best “educated/guess” decision for themselves…
Thanks for everyone’s input…I really do appreciate it.
learn,
I can use quantifiable data like-
half Im times at comparble races on each bike- or ITT or crits or road races.
diamondman I did 21 over the 56 on the serotta-
I did 18 on the serotta at timberman 04
18 and change on the serotta at mooseman 05
or 19 on the crono a timberman 06
17 and change at IMLP 05 serotta
18 and change at IMFL 06 (Guru)
18th in the red roses tt series Crono w/ aero wheel
5th in the philly time trial Crono w/ easton circuits.
I have not tt’d the serotta but i can next season if you would like another data point.
all speeds are approx I did not want to google the times to get to the tenths.
I will have power meter data if santa is nice to me.

an about the campy thing HMMM NOPE I did dura ace with nokons so i do not have that big loop on the bars.

Love the UWM Panthers jersey
Still think you and I will need to dig deep and get our '05 Crono’s re-painted!!
That’s funny ![]()

Thanks to much of your feedback regarding the Ottrott and Paul Levine…I’m flying out to see him Friday… :O)
