Gunning for Kona?

So the season has started for MOST…its time to let the cat outta the bag!

  1. Which of you FAST folks are planning to qualify for Kona this year?

  2. Which race are you planning to qualify at?

  3. What time are you attempting to post?

  4. 1st attempt? 2nd? 3rd? Since the beginning of time!!! Or you’ve already been there like 10 times…=p

  5. Why the fascination with Hawaii? Gatorade Commercial?? =p

Funny no one has posted…

Maybe all the FAST people are out training?? heh…

Nope, they posted to others.

Hahahaha…=p
.

It’s jus too wide open of a question.

I guess so…sigh…

I was curious though…oh well…

I guess I’ll look for all the race reports

well I am already going… but I would like to know also who else is going or planning on going. I know Cathy and sergio are going if I am not mistaking:-) But that doesn’t answer the question…

nobody wants to jinx themself.

I know–could range between (FT) 8:30-17:00…

hahaha…

Whats wrong with putting out the goal for the season? I would if I’m fast enough! If you can’t put it down on paper…what are the chances of it happening…

oh well…=p

I agree. I think goals should be written down, published, announced, etc, etc. Then you feel more accountable for the goal. I think some people are scared of the jinx, as previously posted, but even more so, I think a lot of people are scared of putting themselves out there like that and then failing. Some would see that as a bad thing. Not me.

For the record, I have a goal of beating 10 hours in one of my two IM races (WIS and FLA) this season. I have a dream goal of beating 9:30. There are my first two IMs, so these goals are pretty lofty, but goals that aren’t lofty are pointless. Since I’ve never done one before, I could very well end up crossing the line in 14:36 or there abouts. If so, I’ll still be happy, as long as I leave it all out on the course.

I don’t have Kona goals this season. If I were fortunate enough to qualify, I would be forced to pass on the slot. There is no way I’ll be able to afford a trip to Hawaii in October 2006.

Whats wrong with putting out the goal for the season?

I have taken it a step further than that. I have made it my screen name for the whole world (or at least all of slowtwitch to see). I set the goal in 2003, a 5 year goal with a defined ending place. This year I have had major changes in my life and I think that it is possible despite some doubts along the way. I finally bit the bullet and hired a coach. I have good knowledge but I suck at being self-coached. The coach I picked is very knowledgable and a hell of a nice guy. Plus he has a pretty good track record. I feel I am in good hands.

The main negative about making a goal as public as i have is when I am having a bad day. Last year at a race I recognized another slowtwitcher and introduced myself. His response to me was “If you hope to qualify for Kona, What are you doing back here with me?” I guess it is a good thing that I have given myself time to achieve the goal. I need to get to work.

You da man

I respect that

I think the same way as you. Setting out goals and putting yourself out there requires courage…and you already have that.

Of course, we can never predict what will happen on race-day…its too long for us to really know…but I think going there with a solid goal in mind is important

Best of luck at Moo and Fla

No Moo for me. Florida in November and then April I will try Arizona again. I do not know how much courage I have, only a few members on the forum know my real name.

it ain’t kona, but in my world it is. i’m trying to qualify for xterra nationals (criteria: top 2 point scorer in your age group from your region go. the best three races count towards your overall score. ) since i get bored w/ road biking and injured running on the roads, i’m sticking w/ the off road stuff. it’s just shit-eating fun! (as far as i’m concerned) yesterday i came in 2nd in my age group in my first xterra race of the season, which put me in 4th in my division for the year. the good news: i beat, handily, 2 of the guys that are in my age group (20-24). i know it’s not as big of a deal to qualify for this, i just think it’d be fun to qualify and race at tahoe (and not to mention skip some classes!

so now the cat’s out of the bag. this is my season’s goal. for those that are out to get my, i’m Phil Gregory, in the 20-24 age group, in the mid-atlantic region. feel free to follow my progress, my next race is at the eastern regional xterra championships in richmond, july 3.

BEST OF LUCK!!

I’m in the same AG…

throwing your name, age group, next race and season goal out there for the ST community to see…friggin awesome dirtrunr…I have a hunch your confession might help you accomplish your goal.

I do love that commercial…I’m gunning for Kona in a cautiously optomistic kind of way. Also in M20-24 which by the way, is it just me or is our AG getting tougher? (I’m racing Buffalo Springs and IMFL btw)

I don’t know if its GETTING tougher…its my first year…and I’m 24…next year it’ll DEFINATELY be tougher…

But according to all the past stats, it seems that its still EASIER to qualify…I think…
