GSC10 Problem with Cadence

Just bought the GSC10 and hooked it up.

Synced with 310xt - says speed/cadence synced (top from list chosen), but I can only get a reading from speed and not cadence. When I spin the wheels - I get a green light on the sensor from the wheel magnet and a red light from the pedal magnet. I think it’s close enough for a reading (ie the blinking light) but not picking up my cadence.

I’ve tried the reset button, resyncing… any help?

I’m using bike 1 mode. Gear with pedals icon appears on the watch. (see below - not a strike thru, but the pedals)

Attached is a pic of the setup.

Note - this is the same spot where I had just replaced my Cateye unit from.

are you running the latest firmware (v3.90) on your garmin? if not, try updating and see if that helps (note: BACKUP all of your data first, your device may get wiped clean):

Yeah its fw version 3.9
.

  1. Try sliding the crank magnet a bit up or down the crank. I recall having troubles with this because, as I learned, it is not supposed to line up where it looks like it is supposed to line up.
  2. I also had to sandwich some tubing between my crank magnet and the crank in order to get it very close to the sensor.

Have you pushed “Start” in bike mode. I do not think it will show cadence until the workout is actually started.

+1 to 7 of clubs…i have doen this in middle of training…no “start” = no cadence or distance.

make sure the lines on the GSC10 and the cadence magnet are lined up. I had this problem with my speed and moved the wheel magnet not even a full cm and it started read perfectly.

Yeah I pressed start.

Here’s the garmin connect details of my test ride:
If Cadence were there it would appear below timing.

Hey thanks guys - I got it working - moved it as close as possible without hitting the unit, did the reset, went around 60 times, then resync’d with the watch. Wasn’t working then remembered to press start

Anyone have this trouble with SPEED function? Did a 2 hour ride last night and noticed that my speed at times was way off (reading 18-30mph when I was riding around 23-24mph). It then went into a mode of reading really low for a while (while on tree covered bike trail so don’t know if GPS is an issue with this–like 3-8mph on a flat paved trail when I was over 20mph for a few minutes) and my out and back looked something like this (19.48miles in 58:01 minutes out, 38.12miles total in 1:57 minutes). So on an out and back, the unit lost nearly a full mile for the return segment. If the magnet were off a touch on the spokes, I’d expect some bizarre functioning but it seemed to start around the halfway point and resolved itself for the last 10 miles or so that are on normal roads without trees everywhere. Could the GPS function be providing a “backup” at this point? The data stream looks consistent with GCS10 feed–minimal speed variation with the one second readings as opposed to the wild fluctuations as seen with the GPS based speed data. Any thoughts?
