Alright folks, I’m holding a contest where the winner will receive a brand new Garmin Forerunner 201 GPS training device. I’ve just recently got one and it’s incredible if you like looking at data, so i’m here to spread this great technology. Have no doubt, I’m keeping mine, so this one will be brand new! The retail price is US$160. The contest will be held on both letsrun.com and slowtwitch.com unless moderators from one of the boards dislikes the contest and pulls the thread.
To view some of the potential of this device follow this link to motionbased.com, which has applications that make this device worth buying…twice! You will need to register to do so, but I promise it will only take you about 30 seconds to do and it’s FREE.
Now, the actual contest is who can come up with the best training philosophy in 21 words or less. I pick 21 because it’s a number in the fibonacci sequence and it’s short enough to require one to really think about their philosophy and be able to condense it to a pure form. Challenge yourself a bit, and write in whatever style you wish. The contest officially ends on September 21 at 9:21pm. You can have only one official entry. I get to choose the winner, or at the very least choose who chooses the winner.
Edited…I like what Monk has to say below, and thanks for the link to a cheaper price, I got caught up in the heat of the moment and paid actual retail price at a sport shop in the area.
I’ve already gotten a few PM’s and thought they were quite inspiring, I think the money I’m spending will be worth the inspiration I get from you guys, and that’s one of the main reasons I’m doing this. If you feel comfortable doing so, please write your philosophy in the public forum so all can have a chance to be equally inspired. Just don’t read the philosophies here and box yourself in thinking you have to make something similar. Maybe the Oracle can tell us who is going to win?!
I like that–and it can’t be one’s own self, and it should be someone who is already a registered user as of the date of the contest–not somebody’s own wife.
It would be as much fun to be able to give one away as to get one.
Thanks for starting things up on the forum LaWoof. Two people left me messages several hours ago with their submissions, and if you two could resend it that would be much appreciated, they were sweet. I checked off some old messages to make room for any potential new ones and everything got deleted; very frustrating.
“Body is Evil and Must be Punished”…it’s actually a Hamish Carter quote that I live by! I have it posted on my monitor at work, in my workout room at home and even on the handlebars of my bike.
WOW! BEEN EYEBALLING THESE SINCE Demerly wrote about them. IMW is now over so I’m saving for a MTB and feeling the need to get off-road for awhile! Thanks for the contest opportunity!
“GO”, Frequent, Long. For ADVENTURE, to crest a hill and PUNCH IT, or cruise control and roll. FOR PURE TRAINING ECSTASY.
That’s my entry! What I’m trying to say is all the good stuff happens in training. That one run that sticks in your mind for a whole years and maybe a lifetime. When it all clicks. Like the feeling of winning a competition (not a tri for me dunno…) That feeling that you just want more, that ability to run up a hill and have the need to recover, rather go blazing off down the way.
Be kinda cool to have a record of those glorious days especially if you can check it out days down the road when I actually feel like sitting by the computer
Life is and adventure, the world is our playground.
I got one on my birthday in July and really like it. But, I tried wearing it during a triathlon and now it no longer works. I read that it was waterproof to 1 meter so I thought it could take the swim. I wanted to see how much “extra” I really swim compared to the actual course.
